Today's scores and summaries:

Red Sox 4, Angels 3 at California (night game):
A pinch-single by Bob Burda with two out in the eighth inning scored Duane Josephson from second base and capped a comeback by the Red Sox in a 4-3 victory over the Angels. A homer by Bob Oliver helped the Angels take a 3-0 lead. The Red Sox rallied to tie the score in the sixth. Carl Yastrzemski was injured in a home-plate collision with catcher Art Kusyner, suffering strained ligaments in his right knee. In the eighth, Josephson singled for his third hit of the game and advanced to second on a sacrifice before Burda batted for Bill Lee and delivered his first hit in a Red Sox uniform.

Tigers 5, White Sox 2 at Chicago (night game):
Alter six innings of scoreless dueling between Joe Coleman and Wilbur Wood, the Tigers broke away to defeat the White Sox, 5-2. The Tigers tagged Wood for two runs in the seventh on a single by Norm Cash, double by Mickey Stanley, single by Ed Brinkman and squeeze bunt by Coleman. As a result, Wood was the loser, although the Tigers added their other runs at the expense of White Sox relievers. Coleman also failed to finish, but received credit for the victory.

Indians 2, Royals 1 at Cleveland (night game):
With two out in the eighth inning, Dick Tidrow singled and del Unser followed with a homer to enable the Indians to defeat the Royals, 2-1. Tidrow fell one out short of a shutout and complete game, yielding the mound to Steve Mingori in the ninth after Lou Piniella homered for the Royals' run.

Twins 4, Yankees 2 at Minnesota (night game):
The Twins bunched five of their seven hits for three runs in the second inning and defeated the Yankees, 4-2. Harmon Killebrew started the stanza with a single and stopped at third on a double by Bobby Darwin. Killebrew scored on an infield out by Steve Brye and Darwin came home on a single by Phil Roof. Singles by Jim Kaat and Cesar Tovar then added the third run.

[DH] A's 10, Brewers 2 (night game) / A's 3, Brewers 0 at Oakland (night game):
One scoring outburst in each game carried the Athletics to 10-2 and 3-0 victories in a twi-night doubleheader with the Brewers. In the lidlifter, the A's crammed all their runs together in the fourth inning, sending 14 men to bat and collecting four doubles, three singles and two walks. In addition, one batter was hit by a pitch and the Brewers chipped in with two errors. In Larry nightcap, Brown opened the A's fifth with a long fly that Joe Lahoud dropped, allowing the batter to reach third. Bobby Brooks singled to score Brown. After two walks loaded the bases, Mike Epstein singled, driving in two runs to ice the verdict.

Pirates 5, Braves 2 at Atlanta (night game):
Dave Cash hit a single, double and homer to lead the Pirates to a 5-2 victory over the Braves. Cash's single, a triple by Roberto Clemente and single by Richie Hebner produced two runs in the first inning. Willie Stargell homered in the third. Cash hit for the circuit in the fourth and then doubled in the eighth to score Bob Robertson, who had reached base on a walk.

Cubs 7, Reds 1 at Cincinnati (night game):
Rick Monday smashed four hits, including a homer, in support of Fergie Jenkins, who pitched the Cubs to a 7-1 victory over the Reds. Jim Hickman and Glenn Beckert batted in two runs apiece.

Expos 7, Giants 1 at Montreal (night game):
Four errors in one inning enabled the Expos to score four runs in the sixth to clinch a 7-1 victory over the Giants. Bob Bailey led off the weird frame with a single and when Juan Marichal threw wildly, trying for a forceout on a bunt by Mike Jorgensen, both runners were safe, with Bailey taking third. Bailey held third on a fly by Ron Fairly, but Jorgensen advanced to second when Dave Kingman bobbled the throw from the outfield. Ken Singleton was passed intentionally to load the bases. Boots Day folowed with a grounder to Tito Fuentes, who kicked the ball into right field, allowing three runs to score. Day raced to third and then counted the fourth run of the inning on an error by Chris Speier.

Cardinals 2, Astros 1 at St. Louis (night game):
Staked to a two-run lead in the first inning, Scipio Spinks pitched the Cardinals to a 2-1 victory over the Astros. Lou Brock led off the opening frame with a double, Jose Cruz was safe on an error by Tommy Helms and runs followed on a single by Matty Alou and double by Joe Torre. The Astros' tally in the seventh was unearned. Cruz dropped a fly by Roger Metzger for a two-base error and Cesar Cedeno plated the run with a single to spoil Spinks' effort to shut out his former teammates.
