Today's scores and summaries:

Rangers 3, Orioles 1 at Baltimore (night game):
An opening spell of wildness by Jim Palmer enabled the Rangers to score two runs in the first inning to gain a 3-1 victory over the Orioles. Elliott Maddox led off with a double. Dave Nelson and Don Mincher both walked to load the bases. Palmer also passed Hal King to force in the Rangers' first run and the second followed on a grounder by Frank Howard.

Red Sox 8, Angels 1 at California (night game):
Ray Culp turned in the first complete game to the credit of the Red Sox staff this season and beat the Angels, 8-1. Tommy Harper hit a triple and two singles, driving in three runs, and Reggie Smith smashed a homer, only the third by the Red Sox in 17 games.

Giants 6, Expos 2 at Montreal (night game):
Coming out of the bullpen, Ron Bryant made his first start of the season and pitched the Giants to a 6-2 victory over the Expos. The Giants scored all their runs in the first three innings, Dave Rader accounting for two RBIs with a double and single. Bryant also drove in a run with a double.

[DH] Mets 2, Dodgers 1 (day game) / Dodgers 6, Mets 4 at New York (night game):
Tom Seaver gained his fifth victory of the season and 100th of his major league career as the Mets won the afternoon half of separate-admission, day-and-night games with the Dodgers, 2-1. The Dodgers came back to prevail under the lights, 6-4. In the sunshine contest, the Mets scored both their runs in the fifth inning, the first coming on a homer by Ed Kranepool. Then, after issuing three walks, Dodger starter Bill Singer threw wildly in an attempted pickoff play at second base and the Mets' second run scored. Seaver was lifted in the ninth after giving up a leadoff single to Bill Buckner. The Dodgers scored on singles by Willie Davis and Wes Parker before Danny Frisella brought the game to a close. In the night game, Davis and Willie Crawford homered in the fourth inning. The Dodgers then exploded for four more runs in the seventh on a triple by Crawford, double by Billy Grabarkewitz, single by Chris Cannizzaro, a hit batsman, a sacrifice and double by Bill Russell.

Phillies 6, Padres 5 at Philadelphia (night game):
A single by Greg Luzinski with two out in the 12th inning scored Terry Harmon and gave the Phillies a 6-5 victory over the Padres. Harmon walked and moved to second on a sacrifice by Larry Bowa. After an intentional pass to Tim McCarver, Willie Montanez struck out before Luzinski came through with his winning single.

Cardinals 4, Astros 3 at St. Louis (day game):
A victim of his own error, Jerry Reuss lost to his former teammates when the Cardinals scored three runs in the ninth inning to defeat the Astros, 4-3. Ted Simmons and Donn Clendenon led off the ninth with singles and when Ted Sizemore bunted, Reuss threw the ball wildly into right field, allowing the tying runs to score. Sizemore reached third on the error. After Wade Blasingame relieved, Marty Martinez, also a former Astro, singled to drive in the winning run.
