Today's scores and summaries:

Angels 4, A's 3 at California (night game):
A double by Syd O'Brien for his first hit in 10 times at bat this season led to the run that gave the Angels a 4-3 victory over the Athletics in 12 innings. After O'Brien led off with his two-bagger, Steve Barber sacrificed. O'Brien held third as Art Kusnyer grounded out. The A's then passed Sandy Alomar intentionally in a move that failed when Mickey Rivers rapped a single to drive in O'Brien.

Tigers 7, Red Sox 2 at Detroit (night game):
With Joe Coleman pitching a three-hitter, the Tigers defeated the Red Sox, 7-2. Tom Haller, Coleman's batterymate, hit a triple and double, driving in two runs and scoring two.

Astros 4, Dodgers 3 at Los Angeles (night game):
A squeeze bunt by Tommy Helms with the bases loaded in the 11th inning brought the Astros a 4-3 victory over the Dodgers. The Astros were held to only one hit until the ninth and were losing, 2-0, until they erupted to take the lead on a single by Jim Wynn, pass to Bob Watson and homer by Doug Rader. The Dodgers tied the score in their half with a pass to Bill Buckner and double by Frank Robinson. In the 11th, Lee May was safe on a throwing error by Billy Grabarkewitz and Watson singled. After Johnny Edwards was retired, the Dodgers walked Rader. As pinch-runner Bobby Fenwick broke for the plate, Helms laid down his winning bunt.

Mets 2, Expos 1 at New York (day game):
After the first two men had batted, the Mets had two runs and that was enough to beat the Expos, 2-1. Willie Mays drew a walk to lead off and scored on a triple by Ted Martinez. Sliding across the plate, Mays knocked the ball out of John Boccabella's glove on the throw from the outfield and Martinez also scored. The Expos counted in the fifth on a double by Tim Foli and single by Hector Torres.

Reds 8, Giants 5 at San Francisco (day game):
Starting in the Reds' outfield for the first time this season, Hal McRae singled and doubled for his first hits of the year and drove in four runs to help defeat the Giants, 8-5. Cesar Geronimo, who entered the lineup late in the game as a defensive replacement for McRae, sent a run home with a triple in the ninth inning and scored himself on a sacrifice fly by Bill Plummer to insure the Reds' triumph. Sam McDowell, the Giants' starting pitcher, was kayoed in the seventh and drew his first N. L. defeat after five victories.

Cubs 6, Cardinals 4 at St. Louis (night game):
Although forced to call on five pitchers, the Cubs were able to beat the Cardinals, 6-4. Ken Rudolph drove in the Cubs' first two runs with a triple in the fifth inning and scored on a single by Don Kessinger. After a single by Rudolph helped set up another run in the seventh, Kessinger batted in what proved to be the Cubs' winning markers with a single in the ninth. Ted Simmons drove in all four of the Cardinals' counters.
