Today's scores and summaries:

Brewers 3, Orioles 0 at Baltimore (night game):
The Orioles were held to only one hit -- a single by Bobby Grich off Skip Lockwood in the fourth inning -- while losing to the Brewers, 3-0. Lockwood was removed after walking the first two batters in the ninth and Ken Sanders, who relieved, got Johnny Oates to line out and Terry Crowley to hit into a double play. Joe Lahoud singled and scored for the Brewers in the first inning and homered for another run in the sixth.

Indians 7, Red Sox 3 at Cleveland (night game):
After being held hitless for the first five innings, the Indians jumped on Ray Culp for six runs on three walks, two doubles and one single to defeat the Red Sox, 7-3. Ray Lamb walked to lead off and, with one out, Jack Brohamer doubled. Vince Colbert, running for Lamb, was out at the plate on a grounder by Alex Johnson, but Graig Nettles doubled to drive in two runs. After passes to Tommy McCraw and Ray Fosse, Ron Lolich knocked in two runs with a single and Frank Duffy followed with a single to drive in two more tallies.

Tigers 4, Yankees 3 at Detroit (night game):
Bill Slayback made his major league debut with seven innings of no-hit pitching as the Tigers defeated the Yankees, 4-3. The rookie righthander's mastery was broken when Johnny Callison singled for the Yankees' first hit in the eighth. A walk to Horace Clarke, single by Bernie Allen, double by Bobby Murcer and groundout by Roy White produced three runs in the ninth before Slayback was removed. Mickey Stanley batted in three runs for the Tigers with a bases-loaded single in the sixth.

Royals 4, White Sox 1 at Kansas City (night game):
Making his first start since May 7, Bruce Dal Canton yielded only six hits and pitched the Royals to a 4-1 victory over the White Sox. The Royals scored twice in the second inning on singles by Richie Scheinblum, Cookie Rojas and John Mayberry and an infield out by Jerry May. The other pair followed in the third. Freddie Patek doubled and took third on a safe bunt by Amos Otis, who then stole second. Rojas drove them home with a single.

Twins 7, Angels 4 at Minnesota (day game):
Eric Soderholm hit the first grand slam of his major league career to provide the Twins with a 7-4 victory over the Angels. Soderholm's smash off Eddie Fisher followed walks to Rod Carew, Harmon Killebrew and Jim Nettles in the seventh inning and boosted the Twins to a 7-0 lead. However, the homer proved decisive when the Angels rallied for four runs in the eighth, three of them coming on a circuit clout by Vada Pinson.

A's 3, Rangers 0 at Texas (night game):
Although Ken Holtzman was stopped on a string of five straight complete games, the lefthander gained his 11th victory when the Athletics defeated the Rangers, 3-0. Holtzman was lifted after 8 1/3 innings and Darold Knowles completed the shutout. Before leaving, Holtzman drove in the A's first run with a double in the seventh inning, scoring Tim Cullen, who had singled. The A's added a pair in the eighth on five singles.

Cubs 11, Phillies 1 at Chicago (day game):
Rookie Rick Reuschel, who had won one game previously in a relief role, made his first major league start and pitched the Cubs to an 11-1 victory over the Phillies. The Cubs backed their righthander with a 15-hit attack, including a homer by Rick Monday.

Reds 5, Dodgers 0 at Los Angeles (night game):
Gary Nolan became the N. L.'s first 10-game winner this season by pitching the Reds to a 5-0 victory over the Dodgers. Nolan gave up eight hits, four of them by Manny Mota. The Reds were led by Tony Perez, who rapped three singles and drove in two runs.

Mets 4, Pirates 2 at New York (night game):
Bud Harrelson scored two runs and drove in one to lead the Mets to a 4-2 victory over the Pirates. John Milner homered for the Mets in the second inning, but the Pirates went ahead with a two-run single by Rennie Stennett in the sixth. Harrelson doubled in the Mets' half of the sixth, moved to third on a fly ball and scored the tying run on an error by Richie Hebner. Ted Martinez led off the seventh with a single, stole second and counted the tie-breaking tally on a two-out single by Harrelson. Tommie Agee followed with a double to score Harrelson.

Astros 14, Padres 7 at San Diego (night game):
After scoring their first seven runs on five homers, the Astros used a triple, two doubles, three singles, three walks and two errors for seven more runs in the last three innings to defeat the Padres, 14-7. Jim Wynn and Cesar Cedeno each homered for the Astros with a man on base. Doug Rader hit two solo swats and Lee May added one. Larry Stahl collected four hits for the Padres. The Astros broke a 7-7 tie and went ahead to stay when Cedeno singled in the seventh, stole second and crossed the plate on a double by Wynn.

Giants 3, Braves 0 at San Francisco (day game):
Posting his second straight shutout, Ron Bryant pitched the Giants to a 3-0 victory over the Braves. The lefthander yielded three hits after beating the Cubs, 4-0, on a two-hitter in his last previous start June 21. Ed Goodson led the Giants at bat with three hits, scoring one run and driving in another.

Cardinals 4, Expos 3 at St. Louis (night game):
Bob Gibson gained his sixth straight victory and the Cardinals extended their winning streak to six games by defeating the Expos, 4-3. Joe Torre homered with two men on base in the first inning and the deciding run followed in the second on a single by Dal Maxvill and double by Lou Brock to beat Balor Moore, who had been called up by the Expos from Quebec City (Eastern).
