Today's scores and summaries:

Tigers 6, Royals 4 at Detroit (night game):
The first pitcher in the major leagues to win 15 games this season, Mickey Lolich reached that mark when the Tigers defeated the Royals, 6-4. The Tigers sent 10 men to bat in the first inning and provided Lolich with a five-run lead against Paul Splittorff, who was stopped on his personal five-game winning streak. Ed Brinkman drove in two runs with a single and then accounted for another RBI in the third with a bunt that scored Ike Brown, who doubled and stole third. Amos Otis and Rochie Scheinblum homered in the ninth for the Royals.

Twins 10, Red Sox 0 at Minnesota (night game):
While Ray Corbin pitched a six-hitter, the Twins piled up 12 hits, including two homers, and walloped the Red Sox, 10-0. Rich Reese hit one homer with two men on base and Eric Soderholm supplied the other blow with one aboard.

Rangers 5, Indians 0 at Texas (night game):
Staked to a four-run lead in the first inning, Rich Hand pitched the Rangers to a 5-0 victory over the Indians. The shutout was only the third to the credit of the Rangers' staff this season. In their fast getaway, the Rangers scored their first two runs on singles by Toby Harrah, Don Mincher, Dick Billings and Larry Biittner. Hal King then hit a wind-blown fly that fell for a double as two more runs crossed the plate.

Astros 7, Cubs 2 at Chicago (day game):
The Astros exploded for five runs on two homers in the ninth inning to defeat the Cubs, 7-2. With one away, Doug Rader and Johnny Edwards singled and Tommy Helms homered off Fergie Jenkins to break a 2-2 tie. When Roger Metgzer followed with a single, Dan McGinn replaced Jenkins and retired Jim Ray, the winner in relief, but Norm Miller then iced the game with another homer.

Reds 2, Pirates 0 at Cincinnati (night game):
Completing the sweep of the three-game series, the Reds defeated the Pirates, 2-0, behind the pitching of Gary Nolan and Clay Carroll. Nolan bowed out for a pinch-hitter in the eighth inning and Carroll finished to pick up credit for his 19th save. Cesar Geronimo homered off Steve Blass in the fifth inning and the Reds' other run scored in the eighth on a double by Pete Rose, safe bunt by Joe Morgan and sacrifice fly by Bobby Tolan.

Cardinals 2, Braves 0 at St. Louis (night game):
Following the example of Gibson, who posted a shutout in the previous night's game, Reggie Cleveland pitched the Cardinals to a 2-0 victory over the Braves. The Redbird righthander allowed only two singles and extended his personal winning streak to seven games. The Cardinals scored their initial run in the fourth inning on a double by Matty Alou, single by Ted Simmons and infield out by Bernie Carbo. Jose Cruz singled in the seventh, stole second, continued to third on a wild throw by Earl Williams and counted an insurance run on a single by Cleveland.
