Today's scores and summaries:

Red Sox 8, Angels 2 at Boston (day game):
Carlton Fisk hit a three-run homer and Tommy Harper and Doug Griffin drove in two runs apiece with doubles as the Red Sox defeated the Angels, 8-2. Lynn McGlothen turned in the fourth straight route-going victory to the credit of the Boston staff.

White Sox 3, Tigers 2 at Detroit (night game):
The White Sox snapped their six-game losing streak on two homers by Rick Reichardt, who drove in all their runs in a 3-2 victory over the Tigers.

Indians 6, Royals 1 at Kansas City (night game):
Gaylor Perry, who won 16 games for the Giants last year before being traded to the Indians, equalled that total by defeating the Royals, 6-1. Perry also drove in two runs with a pair of singles.

A's 9, Brewers 6 at Milwaukee (night game):
A triple by Angel Mangual and double by Reggie Jackson were the big blows when the Athletics pulled away with six runs in the seventh inning to defeat the Brewers, 9-0. After the A's took a 3-0 lead, the Brewers tied the score with a homer by Ollie Brown in the sixth. Mike Epstein singled for the A's in the seventh and when Sal Bando bunted, Rick Auerbach dropped the throw to second and both runners were safe. Mangual sent them home with his triple. Dave Duncan, the next man up, was hit a by pitch. After a single by Marty Martinez scored Mangual, Bert Campaneris singled to load the bases and Jackson cleared the sacks with a double.

Yankees 13, Twins 3 at New York (day game):
The Yankees sent 12 men to bat in the fourth inning and scored seven runs on five hits, two walks and two errors to romp over the Twins, 13-3. Mike Kekich and Celerino Sanchez each drove in two runs. In addition, the Yankees had a two-run homer by Ron Blomberg in the second inning and another two-run smash by Roy White in the sixth.

Rangers 3, Orioles 2 at Texas (night game):
The Rangers scored two runs on only one hit in the eighth inning to overtake the Orioles, 3-2. Ted Ford homered for the Rangers in the first, but the Orioles had a 2-1 lead in the eighth when Mike Cuellar dug his own grave by walking Lenny Randle and throwing wildly on a bunt by Tom Grieve. After a pass to Dave Nelson loaded the bases, Dalton Jones forced Randle at the plate and Ford flied out, but Dick Billings singled to drive in the tying and winning runs.

Reds 6, Cubs 1 at Chicago (day game):
Bobby Tolan and Tony Perez batted in two runs apiece in support of Ross Grimsley, who allowed only five hits and pitched the Reds to a 6-1 victory over the Cubs.

Cardinals 6, Astros 0 at Houston (night game):
Rick Wise scattered eight hits to post a shutout and Ted Simmons smashed a homer with two men on base in the fifth inning to clinch the Cardinals' 6-0 victory over the Astros.

Dodgers 5, Mets 0 at Los Angeles (night game):
Claude Osteen was a shutout winner over Tom Seaver for the second time in 11 days when the Dodgers defeated the Mets, 5-0. Bobby Valentine batted in two runs for the Dodgers with a single in the fourth inning and scored himself on a double by Steve Garvey. Singles by Lee Lacy, Manny Mota and Willie Davis and a sacrifice fly by Frank Robinson added the other runs in the seventh. Osteen also beat Seaver, 3-0, in a game at New York July 9.

Pirates 8, Braves 3 at Pittsburgh (night game):
Aaron hit his 659th career homer, tying the record of Babe Ruth for most round-trippers with one club, but the Braves lost to the Pirates, 8-3. In addition to his 659 homers with the Yankees, Ruth also hit 49 with the Boston Red Sox and six with the Boston Braves for a total of 714. Aaron's round-tripper was more than offset by Gene Alley, Willie Stargell and Richie Hebner, who batted in two runs apiece for the Pirates.

Phillies 3, Padres 2 at San Diego (night game):
Steve Carlton triumphed in a route-going duel with Clay Kirby when Denny Doyle singled in the 11th inning and scored on a two-out double by Bill Robinson to give the Phillies a 3-2 edge over the Padres. The victory was the eighth straight for Carlton.

Expos 3, Giants 2 at San Francisco (day game):
Randy Moffitt, taking over in the ninth inning in relief of Juan Marichal, suffered his first major league defeat when Ken Singleton homered to give the Expos a 3-2 victory over the Giants. Marichal gave up the Expos' first two runs on a homer by Bob Bailey in the first and double by Terry Humphrey and single by Ron Hunt in the third. Chris Speier batted in both Giants' runs, scoring Bobby Bonds with an infield out in the first and Bonds again with a single in the sixth.
