Today's scores and summaries:

Indians 6, Red Sox 2 at Boston (night game):
The Indians erupted for four runs in the eighth inning, three scoring on a pinch-double by Jack Brohamer, to defeat the Red Sox, 6-2. With the score tied, 1-1, Del Unser led off with a single and Eddie Leon walked. After Bill Lee replaced Lynn McGlothen, Chris Chambliss forced Unser in an attempt to sacrifice, but Graig Nettles singled, driving in Leon to break the tie. Tommie McCraw walked to load the bases. When Roy Foster was announced as a pinch-hitter for John Lowenstein, Don Newhauser relieved. Brohamer then batted for Foster and doubled.

Royals 4, A's 2 at Kansas City (night game):
The Royals bunched a double, three singles, two walks and a sacrifice fly for all their scoring in the fourth inning to defeat the Athletics, 4-2. Catfish Hunter, who was stopped on his six-game winning streak, had a 2-0 lead before becoming the victim of the Royals' outburst. Richie Scheinblum walked to start off and scored on a double by Ed Kirkpatrick and sacrifice fly by Lou Piniella. Hunter then passed Freddie Patek intentionally to get at Dick Drago, but the Royals' pitcher, hitless in his last 26 times at bat, surprised with a single to drive in the tying run. Cookie Rojas and Amos Otis followed with run-scoring singles to provide the Royals' winning margin.

Orioles 5, Brewers 2 at Milwaukee (night game):
Brooks Robinson hit a homer and Mark Belanger drove in two runs with a double to lead the Orioles to a 5-2 victory over the Brewers. After hitting his homer in the second to tiethe score at 1-1, Robinson walked in the sixth. Merv Rettenmund also drew a pass from Jim Lonborg and, with two out, Belanger drove in both runners with his double.

Twins 5, Rangers 0 at Minnesota (day game):
Jim Perry pitched a two-hitter and Bobby Darwin smashed a three-run homer as the Twins defeated the Rangers, 5-0. Danny Thompson drove in a run with a triple and scored on a sacrifice fly by Perry in the second inning before Darwin iced the decision with his drive in the eighth.

Reds 9, Braves 1 at Cincinnati (night game):
Joe Morgan and Denis Menke each hit a three-run homer to help power the Reds to a 9-1 victory, spoiling the debut of Eddie Mathews as manager of the Braves, succeeding Luman Harris.

Cardinals 3, Mets 2 at St. Louis (night game):
When Cleon Jones missed an attempted shoestring catch of a line drive, Ted Sizemore raced around the bases for an inside-the-park homer in the 13th inning to bring the Cardinals a 3-2 victory over the Mets.
