Brooks Robinson drove in two runs with a single in the first inning and Jim Palmer took it from there to snap the Orioles' four-game losing streak by defeating the Twins 2-1. Robinson's single off Bert Blyleven came after Bobby Grich was hit by a pitch, Don Baylor singled and Boog Powell moved the runners up with a grounder. Glenn Borgmann homered for the Twins' tally in the seventh inning.

Red Sox 3, White Sox 0 at Chicago (day game):
Luis Tiant held the White Sox to two hits and pitched the Red Sox to a 3-0 victory. The White Sox were handcuffed until Carlos May doubled with two out in the seventh inning. Tony Muser added the other safety with a pinch-single in the the ninth. Tommy Harper gave Tiant the only run that the veteran Cuban righthander needed by hitting a homer in the first inning.

Indians 5, A's 4 at Cleveland (day game):
Alex Johnson drove in three runs with a double and homer and Graig Nettles added two more with a homer to account for the Indians' scoring in a 5-4 victory over the Athletics, who were stopped on their four-game winning streak. The victory was the Indians' first of the season over the A's after seven straight losses. Vida Blue, who started for the A's, gave up two runs on a walk, single by Chris Chambliss and double by Johnson in the first inning before leaving the game because of a recurrence of groin trouble. After the A's took a 3-2 lead, Johnson tied the score with his homer off Gary Waslewski in the fourth. Roy Foster walked and Nettles then homered for the winning blow.

Tigers 10, Angels 1 at Detroit (day game):
The Tigers enjoyed their best game at bat this season, piling up 16 hits to defeat the Angels, 10-1. Six of the Tigers' runs crossed the plate in the first inning. Singles by Tony Taylor and Aurelio Rodriguez, around a passed ball, produced the first tally. Al Kaline followed with a two-run homer. A single by Willie Horton, walk to Mickey Stanley and error by Ken McMullen on a grounder by Ike Brown loaded the bases as the inning kept going. Ed Brinkman singled, driving in two runs to kayo Rudy May. After Rickey Clark relieved, Tom Timmerman missed an attempted squeeze bunt and Brown was out at the plate. Timmerman then singled to drive in the first run of his major league career.

John Mayberry homered in the seventh inning for the Royals' tie-breaking run in a 2-1 victory over the Brewers. A double by Rick Auerbach and single by Brock Davis produced the Brewers' run in the first.
