Today's scores and summaries:
[DH] Rangers 4, Brewers 1 (day game) / Brewers 4, Rangers 3 at Milwaukee (day game):
The Brewers, who had dropped both ends of their last six previous doubleheaders, snapped that losing pattern by splitting a twi-night pair with the Rangers. After the Rangers won the first game, 4-1, the Brewers came back to take the second game, 4-3. Gary Ryerson, who pitched the opener for the Brewers, helped beat himself with an error that led to three unearned runs for the Rangers in the first inning. Frank Howard homered for their other tally in the fourth. In the nightcap, Dalton Jones doubled with the bases loaded to give the Rangers a 3-1 lead in the fourth inning, but Johnny Briggs doubled and Dave May homered to tie the score in the Brewers' half. May then drove in the winning run in the eighth with a single that scored pinch-hitter Tommie Reynolds, who opened the inning with a single and advanced on a sacrifice by George Scott.
Reds 6, Expos 0 at Montreal (day game):
Johnny Bench started the Reds' scoring with a homer in the second inning and Jack Billingham pitched a six-hitter to shut out the Expos, 6-0.
