Today's scores and summaries:

Tigers 9, Red Sox 7 at Boston (day game):
The Tigers batted their way to an 8-0 lead and then stood off the Red Sox, 9-7, before a crowd of 29,006 in Boston's annual Patriot's Day morning game. The Tigers put together five singles and a hit batsman for four runs in the first inning and added four more in the fourth, three scoring on a homer by Willie Horton. Tony Taylor also homered for the Tigers' last run in the eighth. The Red Sox had a power show of their own with two circuit clouts by Reggie Smith and one each by Rico Petrocelli and Carlton Fisk.

Dodgers 2, Astros 1 at Los Angeles (night game):
Lee Lacy, who struck out four times and hit into a double play in his previous trips to the plate, refused to be a patsy in the 13th inning and drove in a run with a single to give the Dodgers a 2-1 victory over the Astros. Ron Cey opened the stanza with an infield hit and was forced by Bill Russell, who then stole second. The Astros walked Tom Paciorek intentionally to get at Lacy, who wrecked their plans with his single.

Reds 7, Padres 6 at San Diego (night game):
Hot-hitting Dave Concepcion smashed a three-run homer, plus two singles, and Tony Perez and Johnny Bench also connected for the circuit as the Reds edged the Padres, 7-6. Perez and Concepcion hit their homers in the third inning, Concepcion's clout following a pass to Cesar Geronimo and single by Phil Gagliano. Bench's belt put the Reds ahead, 7-4, in the seventh and enabled them to shrug off a two-run homer by Nate Colbert for the Padres in the ninth.
