Today's scores and summaries:

Yankees 6, Orioles 1 at Baltimore (night game):
The Yankees, who scored five runs in the ninth inning to win the previous night's game, 7-4, exploded for six runs in the second inning to beat the Orioles again, 6-1. Jim Ray Hart singled to open the stanza and was out trying for third on a single by Thurman Munson, who advanced to second on the play. Gene Michael singled to score Munson. Horace Clarke, Roy White and Ron Blomberg followed with singles for two more runs to kayo Jim Palmer. Orlando Pena relieved and on his first pitch, Bobby Murcer hit a three-run homer. Earl Williams averted a shutout for the Orioles by connecting for the circuit in the fourth inning.

Tigers 11, Red Sox 7 at Boston (day game):
The Tigers completed a sweep of the four-game series by defeating the Red Sox, 11-7, with a 16-hit attack that included a three-run homer by Mickey Stanley. Bill Freehan and Aurelio Rodriguez each had four hits in five trips. The Tigers did not assure their victory until the eighth inning when they scored three runs, one of them coming when Al Kaline stole home on the front end of a double steal with Willie Horton. Orlando Cepeda and Dwight Evans hit homers for the Red Sox.

Brewers 10, Indians 7 at Cleveland (night game):
George Scott hit two homers and a single, driving in four runs, and Darrell Porter smacked a three-run homer to help power the Brewers to a 10-7 victory over the Indians. With two out in the eighth inning, the Brewers erupted for three runs to break a 7-7 tie. Dave May singled, stole second and scored the go-ahead run on a single by Gorman Thomas. After Thomas stole second for the Brewers' fifth theft of the game, Johnny Briggs walked and two runs followed on singles by Scott and Don Money. Charlie Spikes hit a two-run homer for the Indians and George Hendrick drove in three runs with four hits.

Royals 16, A's 8 at Kansas City (night game):
In a game marked by a total of 34 hits, the Royals whacked their way past the Athletics, 16-8. The Royals collected 19 hits, including a homer, triple and two singles by Amos Otis, who drove in four runs. Ed Kirkpatrick and Paul Schaal each accounted for three RBIs as every player in the Royals' starting lineup joined in the attack with one or more hits. Gene Tenace had a two-run homer among the A's 15 hits.

Giants 8, Dodgers 6 at Los Angeles (night game):
Bobby Bonds hit a two-run homer in the seventh inning and drove in another run with a single in the ninth to enable the Giants to defeat the Dodgers, 8-6. Willie Davis batted in five runs for the Dodgers with a pair of homers. Singles by Lee Lacy and Bill Russell, a double by Bill Buckner and Davis' first homer of the game gave the Dodgers a 4-3 lead in the third. The Giants went ahead with two runs in the fourth and made it 7-4 when Dave Rader singled and Bonds homered in the seventh. Davis hit his second homer with Buckner on base in the eighth, but Randy Moffitt replaced Jim Willoughby and retired the last six batters.

Expos 6, Phillies 5 at Montreal (day game):
A homer by Ken Singleton with two men on base capped a five-run outburst in the sixth inning as the Expos edged the Phillies, 6-5. John Boccabella singled and scored on a double by Pepe Frias to break a 1-1 tie. Mike Jorgensen also doubled to drive in Frias. After Ron Fairly walked, Singleton hit his homer. The Phillies made the game close with a run in the seventh and three in the eighth, two of them unearned, before their rally failed.

[DH] Mets 3, Cubs 1 (day game) / Cubs 7, Mets 0 at New York (day game):
The Mets, after winning the opener of a twin bill, 3-1, absorbed their third shutout in this four-game series with the Cubs and lost the nightcap, 7-0. The Mets, previously beaten twice by 1-0 scores, broke their drouth with two runs in the fourth inning of the lidlifter on a single by John Milner, double by Wayne Garrett and single by Duffy Dyer. Milner added an insurance run with a homer in the eighth. In the nightcap, the Cubs scored five runs in the first inning and breezed to victory behind the three-hit hurling of Burt Hooton.
