Today's scores and summaries:

Orioles 6, Tigers 5 at Baltimore (night game):
Coming out ahead in a relief duel, Bob Reynolds received credit for his first major league victory when the Orioles scored in the 10th inning to defeat the Tigers, 8-5. Reynolds pitched 6 2/3 innings and allowed four hits. Doyle Alexander, who started for the Orioles, gave up a three-run homer by Gates Brown in the third and was kayoed in the fourth when the Tigers tied the score at 5-5. Lerrin LaGrow replaced Mickey Lolich on the mound for the Tigers with two out in the third and yielded only two hits until winding up the loser in the 10th. Don Baylor was hit by a pitch to start that stanza, Larry Brown sacrificed and Paul Blair was passed intentionally. John Hiller replaced LaGrow and retired Rich Coggins, but Mark Belanger doubled to drive in the winning run for his third RBI of the game.

Indians 3, Red Sox 2 at Cleveland (night game):
Helped by Charlie Spikes, who drove in two runs, Gaylord Perry pitched the Indians to a 3-2 victory over the Red Sox. Spikes plated a run with a single in the first inning and homered in the sixth. After Spikes' blast, the Indians put together singles by George Hendrick, Dave Duncan and Jack Brohamer for what proved to be their winning run. Orlando Cepeda and Ben Oglivie homered to produce tallies for the Red Sox.

White Sox 16, Royals 2 at Kansas City (night game):
The Royals, who scored 16 runs in one game and 12 in each of four others previously this season, received a dose of their own medicine and absorbed a 16-2 trouncing at the hands of the White Sox. Bill Melton led the White Sox attack, driving in five runs with a single in the first inning, a homer in the second and double in the sixth.

Brewers 2, Yankees 0 at Milwaukee (night game):
A single by Darrell Porter and homer by Dave May, the Brewers' only two hits off Mel Stottlemyre, were enough to defeat the Yankees, 2-0. Stottlemyre retired the first 15 batters before Porter singled to open the sixth inning. John Vukovich struck out and Pedro Garcia forced Porter, but May then won the game with his homer. Jim Slaton pitched the shutout on a five-hitter.

Twins 5, Rangers 1 at Minnesota (day game):
With Bill Hands pitching a four-hitter, the Twins handed the Rangers a 4-1 defeat. Jerry Terrell got the chance to start his first game at shortstop for the Twins when Danny Thompson injured his ankle in warmups. The rookie drove in a run with a single in the fourth inning for his first major league hit and plated another tally with a squeeze bunt in the fifth.

A's 4, Angels 3 at Oakland (night game):
A double by Billy Conigliaro in the ninth inning scored pinch-runner Bill North and gave the Athletics a 4-3 victory over the Angels. A homer by Bob Oliver in the sixth helped the Angels take a 2-0 lead before Joe Rudi singled and Sal Bando homered to tie the score in the sixth. The Angels went ahead again with a round-tripper by Leroy Stanton in the seventh, but the A's pulled even with a circuit clout by Joe Rudi in the eighth. Gene Tenace singled in the ninth. North, taking over the basepaths, advanced on a sacrifice by Ray Fosse and scored on Conigliaro's double.

Reds 4, Braves 2 at Cincinnati (night game):
A Teen Night crowd of 42,035, the largest turnout in Cincinnati for any game in April or May except for opening day, watched the Reds defeat the Braves, 4-2. Pete Rose led the Reds at bat, hitting a single and scoring on a wild pitch in the first inning and driving in two runs with a triple in the second. The youth-dominated crowd saw Hank Aaron account for the Braves' runs with the 677th homer of the veteran superstar's career.

Astros 6, Padres 2 at Houston (night game):
Ken Forsch pitched the Astros to a 6-2 victory with last-out help from Jim Crawford, who ended a Padres' threat in the ninth inning. Forsch walked Derrel Thomas with the bases loaded before Crawford took over and struck out Leron Lee. The Astros started their scoring with two runs on a walk to Doug Rader, triple by Johnny Edwards and squeeze bunt by Roger Metzger in the second. Lee May batted in two more runs with a double in the fifth.

Giants 7, Dodgers 3 at Los Angeles (night game):
Willie McCovey and Chris Speier collected seven hits between them to lead the Giants' support of Juan Marichal, who defeated the Dodgers, 7-3. McCovey drove in three runs with a single, double and homer. Speier rapped four singles and was on base when McCovey hit his homer in the eighth inning. Garry Maddox contributed a two-run triple to the Giants' scoring. Joe Ferguson and Willie Davis hit solo homers for the Dodgers.
