Today's scores and summaries:

Twins 6, Red Sox 4 at Boston (night game):
Starting with a homer by Larry Hisle, the Twins scored five runs in the third inning and defeated the Red Sox, 6-4. Following Hisle's homer, the Twins put together a walk to Rod Carew, successive singles by Tony Oliva, Bobby Darwin, Steve Braun and Danny Thompson and an infield out by Phil Roof for four more runs. A single by Harmon Killebrew in the eighth inning added the clinching tally.

Angels 6, Orioles 5 at California (night game):
After trailing, 5-0, the Angels rallied to defeat the Orioles, 6-5, in 10 innings. The Angels started their comeback with four runs in the sixth, three scoring on a homer by Frank Robinson. Billy Grabarkewitz doubled in the ninth and gave way to pinch-runner Jerry DaVanon, who counted the tying tally on a single by Bob Oliver. Bobby Valentine walked in the 10th and when Eddie Watt threw wildly to first on a bunt by Vada Pinson, Valentine reached third and Pinson advanced to second. After an intentional pass to Robinson, Jim Spencer singled for his third hit of the game to drive in the winning run.

Brewers 9, Royals 1 at Kansas City (night game):
Jerry Bell allowed only three hits in the first complete game of his major league career and pitched the Brewers to a 9-1 victory over the Royals. John Mayberry homered to save the Royals from being shut out.

White Sox 8, Yankees 4 at New York (day game):
Stan Bahnsen, who lost his only previous decision to the Yankees last season, beat his former teammates, 8-4, with the help of a White Sox attack that included homers by Eddie Leon, Bill Melton and Carlos May. Leon's homer followed a double by Mike Andrews in the second inning. After the Yankees tied the score, the White Sox broke the game open with a five-run outburst in the fourth. Melton led off with his circuit clout and the other tallies counted on four singles, one of them for an RBI by Leon, plus a walk, passed ball and error. May wound up the White Sox scoring with a homer in the seventh.

A's 4, Indians 0 at Oakland (night game):
Ken Holtzman and Horacio Pina combined to pitch the Athletics to a 4-0 victory over the Indians. Holtzman, who failed to go the route for the first time in four starts, was lifted with two men on base and two out in the eighth inning. Pina retired the last four batters and posted the first save to the credit of the A's bullpen this season. The A's scoring against Gaylord Perry included a homer by Ted Kubiak in the seventh inning.

Rangers 2, Tigers 1 at Texas (night game):
Designated hitter Rico Carty, although failing to hit safely, nevertheless drove in one run and scored another to enable the Rangers to defeat the Twins, 2-1. Dave Nelson singled in the first inning, stole second, moved to third on a sacrifice and crossed the plate on an infield out by Carty. Carty forced Toby Harrah in the seventh, advanced on a wild pitch by Mickey Lolich and scored the deciding run on a single by Dick Billings. Mickey Stanley homered in the eighth for the Tigers' tally.

Braves 11, Phillies 2 at Atlanta (night game):
Carl Morton, who was obtained from the Expos in a winter deal, picked up his first victory in an Atlanta uniform when the Braves defeated the Phillies, 11-2. Morton, helping himself at bat, drove in three runs with a double and infield out before leaving the game after seven innings. Ron Schueler finished. Johnny Oates also drove in three runs with a homer and single, while Mike Lum contributed a homer to the Braves' attack.

Giants 4, Cubs 2 at Chicago (day game):
Ron Santo hit two homers to keep the Cubs in the game, but the Giants broke away and scored two runs in the 10th inning to gain a 4-2 victory. Willie McCovey led off the 10th with a single and Mike Phillips ran for him. After Dave Kingman struck out, Garry Maddox beat out an infield hit. Gary Thomasson singled to drive in Phillips and when right fielder Jose Cardenal threw wide of the plate for an error, Maddox also came around to score.

Expos 7, Reds 2 at Cincinnati (night game):
After being shut out on four hits for eight innings, the Expos exploded for seven runs in the ninth and defeated the Reds, 7-2. Tim Foli and Ron Woods started the uprising with singles to chase Don Gullett. After Clay Carroll relieved, Boots Day doubled to score Foli. Following an intentional walk to Ron Fairly, Mike Jorgensen was announced as a pinch-hitter for Jorge Roque. When the Reds brought lefthander Tom Hall to the mound, Bob Bailey batted for Jorgensen and walked to force in the tying run. John Boccabella and Pepe Frias followed with doubles, each driving in two runs, and Ron Hunt then laid down a squeeze bunt to plate the final tally.

Astros 4, Mets 2 at Houston (night game):
Hitting safely in his 16th straight game, Bob Watson rapped a pair of doubles to lead the Astros to a 4-2 victory over the Mets. The Astros got off to a quick start in the first inning with three runs on singles by Tommie Agee and Tommy Helms around an infield out and doubles by Watson and Jim Wynn. Watson hit his other two-bagger in the third and scored on a single by Roger Metzger.

Padres 7, Pirates 5 at Pittsburgh (night game):
Coming from behind, the Padres defeated the Pirates, 7-5, for their first road victory of the season after losing six previous games in rival parks. The Pirates took a 4-0 lead in the first inning before the Padres narrowed the gap with a homer by Leron Lee in the fourth and two runs on a triple by Fred Kendall and singles by Dave Campbell and Derrel Thomas around an error by Bob Moose in the fifth. Willie Stargell smashed a homer in the Pirates' half to make it 5-3. The Padres rallied to win with four runs in the eighth. A walk and singles by Lee and Nate Colbert kayoed Moose. Cito Gaston singled off Dave Giusti to drive in the tying tally. Kendall followed with a run-scoring single to send the Padres ahead and Dave Hilton added the clinching tally with another single.

Cardinals 2, Dodgers 0 at St. Louis (night game):
Rick Wise, the only Cardinal pitcher with a victory in their previous 13 games of the season, made it two wins to his credit by shutting out the Dodgers, 2-0. The Cardinals combined a single by Joe Torre, walk to Ted Simmons and single by Jose Cruz for a run in the second inning and added their other tally on doubles by Lou Brock and Ted Sizemore in the fifth.
