Today's scores and summaries:

Indians 6, Angels 2 at California (night game):
Milt Wilcox yielded only three hits, all in the eighth inning, and pitched the Indians to a 6-2 victory over the Angels. The Indians' nine hits off Nolan Ryan included a homer by Dave Duncan in the sixth inning and back-to-back blows by Charlie Spikes and Ron Lolich in the eighth. The Angels scored their runs on a single by Jim Spencer, double by Leroy Stanton, infield out by Billy Grabarkewitz and single by Vada Pinson.

Royals 3, Tigers 0 at Detroit (night game):
Steve Busby, 23-year-old rookie righthander, pitched the first no-hitter in Royals' history and defeated the Tigers, 3-0. Busby, who allowed six baserunners -- all on walks -- had a few close calls but only one runner, Bill Freehan in the seventh inning, made it as far as third base and two of Busby's walks were wiped out by double plays.

A's 4, Orioles 3 at Oakland (night game):
Angel Mangual, serving as the Athletics' designated hitter, homered in the 12th inning to beat the Orioles, 4-3. All runs in the game came as a result of round-trippers. Boog Powell connected with a man on base to put the Orioles ahead in the third inning, but Joe Rudi matched that blow for the A's in the sixth. After Gene Tenace homered for the A's in the seventh, Don Baylor knotted the count with a circuit clout for the Orioles in the eighth.

Rangers 4, Brewers 2 at Texas (night game):
A two-run single by Jeff Burroughs with the bases loaded in the third inning proved the deciding blow as the Rangers defeated the Brewers, 4-2. After Mike Epstein drove in a run with a single in the second, Toby Harrah walked in the next inning and was on third with two out when Epstein was hit by a pitch. Harrah was trapped off base while Epstein was attempting to steal second, but got back safely by knocking the ball out of the glove of Don Money, who was charged with an error. Dick Billings then walked to load the bases and Burroughs delivered his hit.

Braves 2, Mets 0 at Atlanta (night game):
Homers by Hank Aaron and Darrell Evans on consecutive pitches thrown by Tom Seaver in the fourth inning enabled the Braves to defeat the Mets, 2-0. Aaron's homer was his fifth of the season and 678th of his career. Seaver allowed only one other hit, but was a loser to Pat Dobson, who handcuffed the Mets on three singles.

Cubs 10, Padres 2 at Chicago (day game):
A six-run outburst in the second inning started the Cubs off to a 10-2 victory over the Padres. Jose Cardenal and Rick Monday each doubled home two runs. Cardenal also accounted for two more RBIs with a single in the eighth.

Phillies 3, Reds 1 at Cincinnati (night game):
Steve Carlton held the Reds to only four hits and pitched the Phillies to a 3-1 victory. The Phillies got to Ross Grimsley for two runs in the first inning on singles by Larry Bowa, Mike Anderson and Willie Montanez together with errors by Bobby Tolan and Denis Menke. Bill Robinson doubled and Mike Schmidt singled for the other counter in the fourth. Carlton was deprived of a shutout when the Reds scored in the sixth on a single by Dave Concepcion, a wild pitch and pair of infield outs.

Astros 6, Expos 5 at Houston (night game):
After rallying for three runs to tie the score in the eighth inning, the Astros defeated the Expos, 6-5, on a pinch-single by Jimmy Stewart in the 10th. Ken Singleton hit a two-run homer to help the Expos take a 5-2 lead before the Astros pulled even in the eighth with the aid of singles by Bob Gallagher, Jim Wynn, Bob Watson and Lee May. In the 10th, Wynn walked, stole second, continued to third when catcher John Boccabella's throw went into center field and scored on Stewart's hit.

Giants 5, Cardinals 0 at St. Louis (night game):
Jim Barr allowed only two hits, both by Lou Brock, and pitched the Giants to a 5-0 victory over the Cardinals. Bobby Bonds and Tito Fuentes were the leaders of the Giants' attack on Bob Gibson. Bonds collected a triple and two singles, while Fuentes had a triple, single and sacrifice fly and drove in three runs.
