Today's scores and summaries:

Angels 7, Rangers 1 at California (night game):
Bill Singer extended his personal winning streak to six games by pitching the Angels to a 7-1 victory over the Rangers. Frank Robinson, Singer's former Dodger teammate, started the Angels' scoring with a two-run homer in the first inning. After the Rangers picked up their lone tally in the second on a double by Jeff Burroughs and single by Vic Harris, the Angels came back in their half with the remaining five runs.

Twins 3, White Sox 0 at Chicago (night game):
Scattering six singles, Jim Kaat pitched the Twins to a 3-0 victory over the White Sox. The Twins collected only four hits off Rich Gossage, but George Mitterwald singled in the third inning and Jim Holt followed with a homer. Larry Hisle then singled, stole second and scored on a single by Tony Oliva.

Orioles 6, Indians 2 at Cleveland (night game):
Orlando Pena, pitching in relief of Mike Cuellar, gained his first A. L. victory since 1966 when the Orioles defeated the Indians, 6-2. Bobby Grich homered for the Orioles and Earl Williams batted in two runs with a double.

Tigers 5, Red Sox 4 at Detroit (night game):
The Tigers defeated the Red Sox for the seventh straight time this season, posting a 5-4 victory with the aid of homers by Mickey Stanley and Jim Northrup. Stanley broke a 3-3 tie with a smash in the sixth inning and Northrup provided what proved to be the winning run with his round-tripper in the seventh.

Brewers 6, Yankees 5 at New York (night game):
A single by Dave May for his fourth hit of the game capped a three-run rally in the ninth inning and enabled the Brewers to defeat the Yankees, 6-5. Gorman Thomas walked with one away and Pedro Garcia singled. When Bob Heise forced Thomas for the second out, the Brewers' rally seemed over, but Don Money doubled to score Thomas and May followed with a single to plate Heise and Money with the tying and winning runs.

A's 5, Royals 4 at Oakland (night game):
Bill North drove in the Athletics' tying run and scored the winning run in the sixth inning before being ejected for attacking pitcher Doug Bird in the eighth inning of a 5-4 victory over the Royals. With the Royals leading, 4-3, Dick Green doubled in the sixth and crossed the plate when North singled. North then stole second and scored on a single by Bert Campaneris. In the eighth, North let his bat fly toward the mound, walked out and suddenly began punching Bird. Later, he disclosed that he had planned the attack in revenge for being hit by a pitched ball by Bird when both were playing in the Midwest League in 1970.

Dodgers 3, Braves 2 at Atlanta (night game):
The Dodgers, after being shut out on five hits in the first seven innings, erupted for three runs in the eighth and defeated the Braves, 3-2. Davey Lopes and Bill Buckner opened the rally with singles to chase Ron Reed. Joe Ferguson hit a sacrifice fly off Roric Harrison to drive in Lopes. Willie Crawford doubled to score Buckner. Bill Russell then climaxed the rally with a single that sent Crawford across the plate with the winning run.

Reds 5, Padres 4 at Cincinnati (night game):
A collision between outfielders Cito Gaston and Johnny Grubb going after a routine fly in the fifth inning enabled Joe Morgan to race around the bases for an inside-the-park homer, scoring Pete Rose ahead of him, to help the Reds defeat the Padres, 5-4. The Reds, who also had six doubles in the game, counted what proved to be their winning run when Bench and Tony Perez hit two-baggers in the sixth. The Padres, who were trailing, 5-1, rallied in the eighth but fell short with three runs, two scoring on a homer by Leron Lee.

Astros 3, Giants 1 at Houston (night game):
Idle since May 7 because of a sore shoulder, Dave Roberts returned to action and pitched the Astros to a 3-1 victory over the Giants. Roberts gave up the Giants' run in the second inning on a double by Gary Matthews, infield hit by Dave Rader and single by Bobby Bonds. The Astros came back with their trio in the fourth. Bob Watson walked and when Lee May grounded to Ed Goodson, both runners were safe on a late throw to second. Doug Rader and Johnny Edwards followed with run-scoring singles and Tommy Helms hit a double to drive in the final tally.

Mets 4, Pirates 3 at New York (night game):
With principal batting support from Wayne Garrett, Tom Seaver was able to pitch the Mets to a 4-3 victory over the Pirates. Seaver also helped himself at bat, hitting a single in the third inning before Garrett connected for a homer. The Mets went on to add another run in that same stanza on singles by Ted Martinez and Rusty Staub around an infield out. Bud Harrelson singled in the fourth, stole second and scored what proved to be the winning run on a single by Garrett.

Cubs 9, Phillies 2 at Philadelphia (night game):
Fergie Jenkins pitched the Cubs to a 9-2 victory to continue his career mastery of the Phillies, whom he defeated for the 24th time in 30 decisions. Glenn Beckert, who singled and scored the Cubs' initial run in the first inning, hit safely in his 26th straight game. The Philles' runs came on homers by Del Unser and Mike Rogodzinski.
