Today's scores and summaries:

Indians 5, Orioles 3 at Baltimore (night game):
Two wild pitches proved costly to Dave McNally, who absorbed his sixth straight defeat when the Indians scored twice in the ninth inning to defeat the Orioles, 5-3. With two out, Walt Williams singled and stole second. Williams took third on McNally's first wild pitch and scored when the lefthander threw wild again on the fourth ball to Rusty Torres. Frank Duffy also walked and Buddy Bell then singled off reliever Orlando Pena to drive in an extra run. Charlie Spikes accounted for the Indians' first three tallies with a homer in the fourth.

Brewers 4, Red Sox 2 at Boston (night game):
Breaking up a scoreless duel, the Brewers erupted for four runs in the ninth inning and then stood off a rally by the Red Sox to gain a 4-2 victory. Ellie Rodriguez opened the ninth with a single and gave way on the paths to Gorman Thomas. After a sacrifice by Dave May and intentional pass to George Scott, Don Money singled to score Thomas. Johnny Briggs walked to load the bases, chasing Jack Curtis. Joe Lahoud greeted Bobby Bolin with a single, driving in Scott and Money. Tim Johnson then scored Briggs with a squeeze bunt.

White Sox 6, Angels 2 at Chicago (night game):
Homers by Ken Henderson, Chuck Brinkman and Dick Allen, accounting for the first four runs, powered the White Sox to a 6-2 victory over the Angels. Henderson started off with a circuit clout in the second inning and, after a walk to Rick Reichardt, Brinkman hit the first homer of his major league career. Allen added his round-tripper in the third inning.

Yankees 7, Tigers 2 at Detroit (night game):
Designated hitter Jim Ray Hart collected two singles, a double and homer, raising his batting average to .368, while leading the Yankees to a 7-2 victory over the Tigers. The former National Leaguer hit his homer with two men on base in the seventh inning when the Yankees piled up five runs.

Twins 8, Royals 7 at Minnesota (night game):
The slugging of John Mayberry, who drove in four runs with two homers, was not enough for the Royals, who lost to the Twins, 8-7. Mayberry also rapped a single and double and walked in his perfect night at the plate. The Twins took a 4-3 lead in the third inning with three runs on two walks, a single by Rod Carew and another single after two out by Harmon Killebrew. Two runs followed in the fourth on a walk to Steve Braun, single by Danny Thompson, a wild pitch and single by Larry Hisle. The Twins added their final pair in the fifth on a double by Killebrew and singles by Bobby Darwin, Braun and Thompson.

A's 4, Rangers 1 at Oakland (night game):
Rich McKinney, making his first start of the season at third base for the Athletics, drove in three runs with a double in the fourth inning to defeat the Rangers, 4-1. Bert Campaneris led off the stanza with a double, Sal Bando was safe on an error and Reggie Jackson singled to score Campaneris. After Deron Johnson drew a pass to load the bases, Ray Fosse struck out, but McKinney then came through with his double.

Giants 7, Braves 3 at Atlanta (night game):
Hank Aaron hit his 12th homer of the season and 685th of his major league career, but the Braves otherwise had nothing to cheer about in a 7-3 loss to the Giants. Bobby Bonds put on a sparkling show for the Giants, stealing three bases, including the first theft of home in his major league career. He walked in the first inning and doubled in the third, scoring each time. After singling in the fourth, Bonds stole second. Tito Fuentes walked and was forced by Garry Maddox. Bonds took third on the play and followed with his successful theft of home. The Giants' outfielder crossed the plate for a fourth time with a homer in the ninth.

Reds 6, Astros 4 at Cincinnati (night game):
Dave Concepcion batted in three runs with a double and single to lead the Reds' 15-hit attack in a 6-4 victory over the Astros. Clay Carroll, making his second start for the Reds since coming out of the bullpen, pitched the first five innings, but did not return to the mound after rain delayed the game for 55 minutes. Ed Sprague and Pedro Borbon finished. Bob Gallagher, pinch-hitting for the Astros in the eighth, hit his first major league homer.

Dodgers 5, Padres 1 at Los Angeles (night game):
Davey Lopes increased his league-leading average to .376 with two run-scoring singles as the Dodgers defeated the Padres, 5-1. Willie Crawford also batted in two runs with a homer and double.

Expos 4, Cubs 3 at Montreal (night game):
After scoring their first three runs on homers off Fergie Jenkins, the Expos added a tally in the 11th inning to defeat the Cubs, 4-3. Ken Singleton, Bob Bailey and Mike Jorgensen rapped the Expos' round-trippers. Rick Monday homered with a man on base for the Cubs. Jack Aker was on the mound in relief in the 11th when Ron Hunt singled and Mike Marshall walked. Dave LaRoche relieved and on his second pitch, Ron Fairly singled to drive in the winning run.

Cardinals 5, Mets 3 at New York (night game):
The Cardinals jumped on Jerry Koosman for all their runs in the seventh inning and defeated the Mets, 5-3. Ted Simmons started with a single and stopped at second on a single by Bill Stein. When Ken Boswell left third base, without calling time, to encourage Koosman, Simmons stole third. The Mets brought in their infield and Ken Reitz slapped a single through to left field, scoring Simmons. After a sacrifice by Jose Cruz and intentional pass to Mike Tyson, Rick Wise helped himself to victory with a two-run double. Lou Brock followed with a single to add two more runs for what proved to be the Cardinals' winning margin.

Phillies 7, Pirates 4 at Philadelphia (night game):
Wayne Twitchell pitched the Phillies to a 7-4 victory over the Pirates, but failed to distinguish himself as a batter, striking out four straight times to establish an N. L. record of eight consecutive whiffs in two games. Greg Luzinski and Willie Montanez took care of the batting for the Phillies. Luzinski drove in three runs with a double and single, while Montanez hit a homer with a man on base in the ninth to wrap up the victory.
