Today's scores and summaries:

Royals 2, Orioles 0 at Baltimore (night game):
Lou Piniella drove in two runs with a double in the eighth inning to enable the Royals to defeat the Orioles, 2-0, behind the pitching of Dick Drago. With two out in the eighth, Amos Otis singled, John Mayberry walked and both then scored on Piniella's two-bagger off Dave McNally.

Angels 7, Red Sox 5 at California (night game):
Ray Culp, returning from Pawtucket (International), made his first start of the season for the Red Sox and was knocked out in the second inning of a 7-5 loss to the Angels. Vada Pinson homered off Culp in the first. With two out in the second, Jeff Torborg singled and Rudy Meoli, Sandy Alomar and Pinson walked to force in Torborg. Frank Robinson then doubled to drive in Meoli and Alomar. When Tommy Harper fumbled the ball in the outfield, Pinson also scored. Two more unearned runs off reliever Roger Moret, one in the sixth and the other in the eighth, subsequently provided the Angels with their margin of victory. Dwight Evans and Carl Yastrzemski homered for the Red Sox, Yastrzemski's blow coming with two men on base.

Rangers 4, Indians 2 at Cleveland (day game):
Jim Spencer and Toby Harrah each hit a homer and Spencer drove in another run with a single to pace the Rangers to a 4-2 victory over the Indians. After singles by Dave Nelson, Harrah and Spencer helped produce two runs in the first inning, Spencer hit his homer in the seventh and Harrah added his round-tripper in the ninth.

White Sox 10, Tigers 2 at Detroit (night game):
Homers by Johnny Jeter, Carlos May, Bill Melton and Rick Reichardt punctuated the 13-hit attack of the White Sox in a 10-2 victory over the Tigers. Jeter led off the game with his round-tripper. May connected with two men on base in the fifth. Melton homered with one aboard in the seventh and one out later Reichardt also hit for the circuit.

Brewers 4, Twins 3 at Minnesota (night game):
Two-run homers by Pedro Garcia and Johnny Briggs provided batting support for Jim Colborn, who pitched the Brewers to a 4-3 victory over the Twins. Garcia's homer after a single by Bob Coluccio tied the score at 2-2 in the third inning. Rod Carew hit for the circuit to send the Twins ahead in the fifth, but Dave May doubled for the Brewers in the eighth and Briggs unloaded his homer for the winning blow.

Yankees 8, A's 3 at Oakland (night game):
Every Yankee batter except designated hitter Jim Ray Hart joined in an 18-hit attack en route to an 8-3 victory over the Athletics. The Yankees bunched four singles for two runs in the second, added another tally on three hits in the fifth and wound up their scoring with five unearned runs on two errors and five singles in the ninth.

Braves 18, Pirates 3 at Atlanta (night game):
Three players, Darrell Evans, Ron Reed and Frank Tepedino, batted in four runs apiece as the Braves piled up 17 hits and walloped the Pirates, 18-3. Evans hit a grand-slam homer in the fourth inning. Reed helped his own cause with three singles. Tepedino, who entered the game as a pinch-runner in the fourth and remained in the lineup at first base, collected his first two hits in an Atlanta uniform. Richie Hebner homered to account for all of the Pirates' runs in the fourth before the Braves came back with six in their half, four scoring on Evans' slam. Another six-run outburst followed in the sixth.

Cardinals 8, Reds 0 at Cincinnati (night game):
Rick Wise, who pitched a no-hitter against the Reds June 23, 1971 while with the Phillies, almost achieved the feat again in hurling the Cardinals to an 8-0 victory over the Reds. Wise held the Reds hitless for 8 1/3 innings before Joe Morgan singled for the only safety off his deliveries. The Cardinals sent Wise on the way to his victory with a seven-run outburst against Jack Billingham in the third inning. Wise and Jim Dwyer singled and Ted Sizemore was hit by a pitch to load the bases. A walk to Joe Torre forced in one run and a single by Ted Simmons plated two more. After a pass to Tim McCarver filled the sacks again, Luis Melendez hit a grand-slam homer.

Astros 6, Cubs 1 at Houston (night game):
Don Wilson and Jim Ray combined on a six-hitter and pitched the Astros to a 6-1 victory over the Cubs. Wilson left the mound after seven innings because of a blistered finger. The Cubs scored their run off Ray in the eighth on a walk and two errors. Cesar Cedeno hit a two-run homer for the Astros in the third and Watson also drove in two runs with a pair of singles.

Expos 3, Padres 2 at Montreal (night game):
Mike Jorgensen hit a three-run homer in the first inning and the Expos pulled a triple play in the seventh to defeat the Padres, 3-2. Jorgensen's homer followed two-out walks to Ron Fairly and Ken Singleton. In the seventh, Dwain Anderson singled for the Padres, Gene Locklear walked and Enzo Hernandez singled to load the bases. With a count of two balls on Jerry Morales, Mike Marshall replaced Balor Moore. On Marshall's first pitch, Morales hit sharply to Ron Hunt, who threw to Tim Foli, forcing Hernandez. Foli's relay to Jorgensen retired Morales. Anderson scored, but when Locklear also tried to score from second base on the play, he was thrown out at the plate, Jorgensen to John Boccabella, to complete the triple play.

Mets 3, Giants 1 at New York (night game):
Exactly one year after hitting a homer off Tom Seaver while with the Braves, Felix Millan turned around as a member of the Mets and homered in support of Seaver to help beat the Giants, 3-1. Millan's drive accounted for the first of two runs in the first inning. The other marker scored on a single by Rusty Staub and double by John Milner. Millan doubled in the eighth and subsequently counted the Mets' last run on a sacrifice fly by Milner. The Giants scored their only run in the ninth on a double by Dave Rader and single by Bobby Bonds.

Phillies 16, Dodgers 3 at Philadelphia (night game):
The Phillies scored six runs in each of the first two innings and overwhelmed the Dodgers, 16-3. The Phillies sent nine men to bat in the first with their attack including a two-run homer by Mike Anderson and triples by Willie Montanez and Bob Boone. In the second, when the Phillies batted around again, the big blow was a triple by Del Unser with the bases loaded. Ken Brett joined in the Phillies' fun at bat with a homer in the fifth.
