Today's scores and summaries:

Angels 9, White Sox 2 at Chicago (night game):
The Angels scored four runs in the fourth inning and five in the fifth to enable Rudy May to defeat the White Sox, 9-2. Singles by Frank Robinson, Richie Scheinblum and Ken Berry, a triple by Al Gallagher and single by Jeff Torborg accounted for the scoring in the fourth. Singles by Sandy Alomar, Vada Pinson, Mike Epstein and Scheinbum produced the first two runs in the fifth. Then, after a pass to Berry loaded the bases, Torborg and Rudy Meoli walked to force in two more tallies and another counted on a wild pitch.

Tigers 5, Indians 1 at Cleveland (night game):
Backed by three homers, Jim Perry pitched the Tigers to a 5-1 victory over the Indians. Dick Sharon broke a 1-1 tie with a round-tripper in the fifth inning. Bill Freehan opened the seventh with a circuit clout and Aurelio Rodriguez capped the stanza with a two-run blow to complete the scoring.

A's 9, Royals 5 at Kansas City (night game):
Hitting a pair of doubles, Joe Rudi drove in four runs to account for the Athletics' winning margin in a 9-5 victory over the Royals. The A's landed on Mark Littell, rookie righthander from Omaha (American Association), for four runs in the first inning, two scoring on Rudi's first double. After a double by Bill North and triple by Sal Bando added a tally in the second, Rudi hit his second double to produce two of three runs in the seventh. John Mayberry smashed a homer with two men on base for the Royals.

Brewers 8, Red Sox 3 at Milwaukee (night game):
George Scott smashed two homers and Jim Colborn pitched a six-hitter as the Brewers defeated the Red Sox, 8-3, for their 10th straight victory and 15th in their last 16 games. After the Red Sox took a 2-0 lead in the second, the Brewers bounced back with four runs on only two hits in the third. A walk, single by Pedro Garcia, error by Ray Culp and sacrifice fly tied the score before Scott hit a two-run homer to put the Brewers ahead. The Brewers then walked their way to three runs in the sixth when Don Newhauser passed Garcia, Tim Johnson and Don Money with the bases loaded. Scott added his second homer of the game in the seventh.

Rangers 7, Twins 4 at Minnesota (day game):
Pete Broberg was able to gain his third straight victory, after winning only once in his first six decisions, when the Rangers piled up 15 hits and defeated the Twins, 7-4. Jim Mason hit his first major league homer and Dave Nelson collected three singles and scored three runs.

Dodgers 13, Braves 3 at Los Angeles (night game):
The Dodgers collected 17 singles, including four by Bill Russell, who drove in five runs, to defeat the Braves, 13-3. The lopsided victory was due also to six Braves' errors, resulting in eight unearned runs. The Braves' runs off Andy Messersmith counted on homers by Darrell Evans and Davey Johnson.

Phillies 9, Mets 6 at Philadelphia (night game):
Homers have been going along with victories for Ken Brett, who beat the Mets, 9-6, and hit his third homer in as many starts and gained his third straight victory for the Phillies. Brett also drove in another run with a sacrifice fly, while Mike Schmidt accounted for three RBIs with a double and homer. The Mets scored three runs before Brett retired a batter in the first inning when Willie Mays walked, Felix Millan singled and Rusty Staub homered, but the Phillies bounced back with three runs in their half and went ahead to stay with a pair in the second on singles by Bob Boone and Larry Bowa, an error by Jim Fregosi and sacrifice fly by Brett.

Pirates 3, Cubs 1 at Pittsburgh (night game):
Back-to-back homers by Richie Hebner and Bob Robertson carried the Pirates to a 3-1 victory over the Cubs behind the three-hit pitching of Dock Ellis, who turned in his first complete game since April 29 and only his second of the season. The Cubs counted their run in the third inning on a single by Don Kessinger and double by Rick Monday. Gene Clines singled and Dave Cash doubled for the tying tally in the Pirates' half before the homers pinned the defeat on Fergie Jenkins in the sixth.

Cardinals 1, Expos 0 at St. Louis (night game):
Mike Tyson's first major league homer enabled Rick Wise to pitch the Cardinals to a 1-0 victory over the Expos in a game stopped by rain with one out in the top half of the sixth inning. The victory was the 100th of Wise's major league career against 95 defeats.
