Today's scores and summaries:

Tigers 4, Red Sox 1 at Boston (night game):
The Tigers broke their eight-game losing streak with a 4-1 victory over the Red Sox. Aurelio Rodriguez singled in the third inning and Gates Brown tripled to start the Tigers' scoring. Willie Horton homered in the fourth and two other runs followed in the fifth on singles by Ed Brinkman, Brown and Al Kaline and a sacrifice fly by Norm Cash. The Red Sox run counted in the eighth on singles by Dwight Evans and Rico Petrocelli and a wild pitch.

Angels 6, Royals 5 at California (night game):
The Angels, who were trailing, 5-0, rallied for four runs in the eighth inning and two in the ninth to defeat the Royals, 6-5. Vada Pinson homered with two men on base for the Angels' big blow in the eighth. Mike Epstein singled in the ninth and Richie Scheinblum was safe on an error by Cookie Rojas. Ken Berry singled to score pinch-runner Billy Grabarkewitz. After an intentional pass to John Stephenson, Al Gallagher beat out an infield hit to drive in Leroy Stanton, who ran for Scheinblum.

Twins 4, White Sox 0 at Chicago (night game):
Joe Decker struck out 15, the single-game high in the A. L. so far this season, and allowed only four hits in pitching the Twins to a 4-0 victory over the White Sox. Wilbur Wood was the loser, absorbing his fifth straight defeat and seventh in his last eight decisions. The Twins settled matters against Wood right from the start, scoring two runs in the first inning on a double by Jerry Terrell, infield hit by Rod Carew, a throwing error by Ed Herrmann on Carew's theft of second and a sacrifice fly by Bobby Darwin.

Yankees 10, Indians 2 at Cleveland (night game):
Felipe Alou had three hits and five other Yankees rapped two apiece in a 17-hit attack that resulted in a 10-2 trouncing of the Indians. Roy White and Graig Nettles smashed homers. The Yankees held only a 3-2 lead until they broke the game apart with seven runs in the last three innings.

Orioles 6, Brewers 0 at Milwaukee (night game):
Posting his third shutout of the season, Jim Palmer yielded only four hits and pitched the Orioles to a 6-0 victory over the Brewers. The Orioles rapped Jim Colborn for three runs in the third inning. Al Bumbry and Paul Blair singled. Boog Powell drove them home with a double and scored himself on a single by Earl Williams. Singles by Rich Coggins, Blair and Tommy Davis accounted for another run in the fifth. Then, after Williams singled to load the bases, Bobby Grich singled to drive in the final two tallies.

A's 6, Rangers 2 at Texas (night game):
Dick Green drove in two runs with a pair of singles, Rich McKinney hit a two-run double and Bill North and Joe Rudi rapped homers to carry the Athletics past the Rangers, 6-2. Toby Harrah hit his third homer in as many nights for the Rangers.

Reds 5, Astros 1 at Houston (night game):
Two-run doubles by Joe Morgan and Dave Concepcion provided the Reds' punch in a 5-1 victory over the Astros. Morgan hit his double in the third inning after Bill Plummer walked and Ross Grimsley was safe on an error. Passes to Bobby Tolan and Larry Stahl preceded Concepcion's double in the eighth. Plummer followed with a single to plate Concepcion.

Expos 10, Pirates 3 at Montreal (night game):
Bob Bailey batted in three runs with a homer and double and walked with the bases loaded for another RBI to lead the Expos to a 10-3 victory over the Pirates. Hal Breeden, Bailey and Ken Singleton produced the Expos' first run with a single in the second inning. After a double play, Tim Foli and Bill Stoneman walked to load the bases. Ron Hunt then singled to drive in two runs and Stoneman scored on a wild pitch. Bailey hit his homer in the fifth, drew a bases-loaded walk in the sixth and doubled home two runs in the eighth. Richie Hebner and Richie Zisk hit homers in the sixth for the Pirates' runs.

Cubs 5, Mets 1 at New York (day game):
The four-hit pitching of Burt Hooton enabled the Cubs to defeat the Mets, 5-1. The Mets' run scored in the fifth inning on a pass to Ed Kranepool, an infield out and single by Jim Fregosi. By that time however, the Cubs already had registered their five counters. Three crossed the plate in the third on a double by Don Kessinger, single by Jose Cardenal, pass to Jim Hickman, single by Ron Santo and an error on the hit by Ed Kranepool. Hickman beat out an infield hit in the fifth, Santo was hit by a pitch and Carmen Fanzone and Randy Hundley cracked singles to add the Cubs' other runs.

[DH] Phillies 10, Cardinals 3 (night game) / Cardinals 5, Phillies 4 at Philadelphia (night game):
A lineup switch by manager Red Schoendienst, who brought Lou Brock into the game in the seventh inning, paid off when the Cardinals won the nightcap of a twi-night doubleheader, 5-4, in 11 innings after losing the opener to the Phillies, 10-3. The Phillies, who were leading in the opener, 4-3, broke the game apart with four runs in the sixth inning. A double by Jose Pagan and singles by Cesar Tovar and Denny Doyle produced one run and Del Unser followed with a three-run homer. In the nightcap, Joe Torre hit two homers off Steve Carlton, accounting for the Cardinals' first three runs. When Schoendienst removed starter Rich Folkers in the seventh in favor of Diego Segui, he also put Brock in left field, batting him ninth. Brock then came up as the first batter in the eighth inning and hit a homer. The Phillies, who were within one out of defeat, got life to continue when Unser homered to tie the score in the ninth. However, in the 11th, Ted Simmons doubled and, after an intentional pass to Tim McCarver, Ted Sizemore sacrificed. Jose Cruz walked to load the bases and Brock hit a sacrifice fly for the winning run.

Dodgers 7, Padres 0 at San Diego (night game):
With Don Sutton pitching a two-hitter, the Dodgers breezed to a 7-0 victory over the Padres. The Dodgers collected 11 hits, including three singles by Bill Russell, who scored two runs and drove in one. Willie Davis had two singles and batted in two runs.

Braves 9, Giants 2 at San Francisco (night game):
Handed his first starting assignment of the season, Ron Schueler pitched 8 2/3 innings before requiring help from Danny Frisella as the Braves defeated the Giants, 9-2. Schueler was removed after the Giants scored their two runs in the ninth and Frisella struck out Dave Rader for the final out. Darrell Evans and Johnny Oates homered for the Braves and Evans also drove in another run with a double. Dusty Baker batted in a pair with a bases-loaded single.
