Today's scores and summaries:

Angels 10, Orioles 8 at Baltimore (night game):
Leroy Stanton hit three homers, capping his slugging spree with a two-run drive in the 10th inning, to power the Angels to a 10-8 victory over the Orioles. Stanton's first two homers, accounting for three runs, and a solo swat by Bob Oliver paced the Angels to an 8-3 lead, but the Orioles rallied to tie the score in the ninth. A single by Merv Rettenmund, double by Bobby Grich, a balk, double by Paul Blair and single by Tommy Davis kayoed Dave Sells. Dick Lange, relieving, was greeted with a two-run homer by Earl Williams. However, Lange received credit for his first major league victory when Ken Berry singled and Stanton hit his third homer in the 10th.

White Sox 2, Yankees 1 at Chicago (night game):
Starting for the first time since 1967, Lindy McDaniel pitched a complete game and allowed only three hits, but was a hard-luck loser when the White Sox defeated the Yankees, 2-1. After the Yankees counted their run in the second inning, the White Sox took advantage of an error to tie the score in the fifth. Buddy Bradford singled and Ed Herrmann was safe when Bernie Allen booted his grounder. Jorge Orta sacrificed and Bradford then scored on an infield out by Eddie Leon. In the sixth, McDaniel issued two of his four walks and Bradford followed with a single to drive in the deciding run.

Indians 7, A's 5 at Cleveland (night game):
A pinch-homer by Rusty Torres with two men on base in the ninth inning capped a comeback by the Indians in a 7-5 victory over the Athletics. Reggie Jackson homered to help the A's build up a 5-0 lead before the Indians rallied for three runs in the eighth. Charlie Spikes and Chris Chambliss led off the ninth with singles. After Walt Williams flied out, Ron Lolich singled to drive in one run. Torres then batted for John Lowenstein and hit his game-winning homer.

Tigers 5, Rangers 4 at Detroit (night game):
Pitching out of two bases-loaded threats, John Hiller saved the Tigers' 5-4 victory over the Rangers. The Tigers, after picking up three runs in the first two innings, added another tally on a homer by Dick Sharon in the third. Joe Coleman was kayoed by the Rangers in the seventh, giving up three runs, but Hiller got Tom Grieve to pop up, struck out Pete Mackanin, walked Dave Nelson to load the bases and fanned Vic Harris. Sharon then hit his second homer of the game in the Tigers' half of the eighth. Jeff Burroughs homered for the Rangers in the ninth. The Rangers then proceeded to load the bases with none out, but Hiller struck out Nelson, induced Harris to ground into a forceout at the plate and retired Alex Johnson on a fly.

Royals 5, Brewers 3 at Milwaukee (night game):
Steve Busby struck out 13 to tie the Royals' club record and Lou Piniella and Ed Kirkpatrick batted in five runs between them to defeat the Brewers, 5-3. Piniella homered after a single by John Mayberry in the second inning. Freddie Patek walked, Mayberry singled and both scored on a double by Kirkpatrick in the sixth. Piniella then singled to drive in Kirkpatrick.

Red Sox 2, Twins 1 at Minnesota (night game):
Luis Tiant allowed only two hits and pitched the Red Sox to a 2-1 victory over the Twins. Larry Hisle walked and Joe Lis doubled for the Twins' run in the second inning, but the Red Sox bounced back with their pair in the third on doubles by Dwight Evans and Tommy Harper and a single by Luis Aparicio.

Cardinals 5, Dodgers 4 at Los Angeles (night game):
Lou Brock walked with two out in the ninth inning, stole second and scored on a single by Ted Sizemore to give the Cardinals a 5-4 victory over the Dodgers. Doubles by Jose Cruz and Brock helped the Cardinals take a 4-2 lead with three runs in the seventh inning. The Dodgers came back with a run in their half on a triple by Bill Russell and single by Davey Lopes. After Brock scored in the ninth, the Dodgers rallied again but fell short with one run on singles by Russell, Manny Mota and Bill Buckner.

Mets 1, Astros 0 at New York (night game):
Jon Matlack gave up a double by Tommy Helms in the sixth inning for the only hit off his deliveries while pitching the Mets to a 1-0 victory over the Astros. Duffy Dyer, Matlack's catcher, drove in the run that the southpaw needed in his duel with Jerry Reuss, hitting a single in the second to score Rusty Staub, who walked and reached second on an infield out.

Braves 4, Phillies 2 at Philadelphia (night game):
Darrell Evans drove in all of the Braves' runs with a pair of homers to account for a 4-2 victory over the Phillies. Evans homered after singles by Johnny Oates and Mike Lum in the sixth inning and added the final tally with a solo swat in the ninth. Greg Luzinski homered for the Phillies.

Pirates 4, Padres 3 at San Diego (night game):
Dal Maxvill, playing his first game with the Pirates since being acquired from the Athletics, rapped two hits and scored one run to help defeat the Padres, 4-3. The Pirates, who were losing, 3-1, came from behind to win with three runs in the seventh inning. Singles by Richie Hebner, Maxvill and Richie Zisk produced the first tally. After a sacrifice by Gene Clines, Dave Cash walked to load the bases. Al Oliver forced Cash at second as Maxvill scored. Willie Stargell then doubled to drive in the deciding run.

Cubs 4, Giants 2 at San Francisco (night game):
After being held to only one hit, the Cubs broke loose for four runs in the sixth inning and defeated the Giants, 4-2. Bobby Bonds homered as leadoff man for the Giants for the 10th time this season. With one out in the sixth, the Cubs loaded the bases on walks to Glenn Beckert and Ron Santo around a single by Billy Williams. Ron Bryant then walked Jose Cardenal to force in the tying run. Carmen Fanzone singled to drive in two counters and the fourth run scored on an infield out by Don Kessinger.

Reds 6, Expos 2 at Montreal (night game):
Don Gullett, who has become the new lefthanded ace of the Reds' bullpen, retired the last six batters in the succession after replacing Ross Grimsley, to complete a 6-2 victory over the Expos. This was Gullett's fifth relief appearance since his last start May 28 and in that time he had picked up two victories and two saves. Johnny Bench led the Reds at bat, driving in two runs with a single and homer.
