Today's scores and summaries:

Rangers 4, Red Sox 1 at Boston (night game):
Jim Fregosi, playing in his first game with the Rangers, rapped a homer and two singles, plus a sacrifice fly, in a perfect night at bat and Jim Bibby pitched a five-hitter to defeat the Red Sox, 4-1. Jeff Burroughs also homered for the Rangers, while Orlando Cepeda connected for the Red Sox in the ninth inning to ruin Bibby's bid for a shutout.

White Sox 3, Orioles 2 at Chicago (night game):
The White Sox saved Wilbur Wood from defeat by rallying for three runs in the ninth inning to edge the Orioles, 3-2. Pat Kelly singled with one out and was forced by Johnny Jeter before Carlos May singled, leading to the Orioles' removal of Dave McNally. Bill Melton singled off Bob Reynolds, scoring Jeter, and Ken Henderson followed with a double to drive in Joe Keough, who ran for May. Eddie Watt, relieving, walked Buddy Bradford intentionally to load the bases and Eddie Leon then singled to plate the winning run.

Tigers 8, Angels 2 at Detroit (night game):
Backed by three homers, Mickey Lolich pitched the Tigers to an 8-2 victory over the Angels. Frank Howard, Tony Taylor and Rich Reese rapped round-trippers, Reese's blow coming with a man on base. Howard, in addition to his homer, drove in another run with a single. Taylor accounted for a second RBI with a double. Frank Robinson hit a two-run homer for the Angels. The blow was the 535th of his career, moving him into sixth place on the all-time list ahead of Jimmie Foxx. Mickey Stanley handled 11 putouts in center field for the Tigers, tying an A. L. record.

A's 13, Brewers 4 at Milwaukee (night game):
Gene Tenace hit a grand-slam homer and Ray Fosse also drove in four runs with a homer and double to provide the Athletics' principal power in a 13-4 victory over the Brewers. Tenace's slam came off Frank Linzy in the eighth inning and was the first of his major league career.

Indians 11, Twins 2 at Minnesota (night game):
Friday the 13th proved a lucky date for Dick Bosman, who defeated the Twins, 11-2, to gain his first victory for the Indians since being obtained in a trade with the Rangers May 12. Two Twins' pitchers, Joe Decker and Ken Sanders, not only gave up 13 hits, but walked 10 batters between them. The Indians scored four runs in the fourth inning on just two hits and picked up two runs on one hit and four walks in the seventh, the last two passes coming with the bases loaded.

Yankees 5, Royals 0 at New York (night game):
Bobby Murcer hit three homers and drove in all of the Yankees' runs in support of Mel Stottlemyre, who shut out the Royals, 5-0. Murcer's first homer came after singles by Matty Alou and Roy White in the first inning. His other blasts followed in the sixth and eighth as the Yankee outfielder hit three homers in a game for the second time in his career.
