Today's scores and summaries:

Orioles 5, Yankees 3 at Baltimore (night game):
Three homers carried the Orioles to a 5-3 victory over the Yankees. Steve Kline, who started for the Yankees, walked Rich Coggins before Tommy Davis hit for the circuit in the fourth inning. Another pass to Mark Belanger preceded an inside-the-park homer by Al Bumbry in the fifth when center fielder Bobby Murcer missed an attempted diving catch of his line drive. Belanger, batting against Yankee reliever Fred Beene, hit his homer in the eighth. The round-tripper was the first for the Orioles' shortstop since September 4, 1972, and the ninth of his major league career. Graig Nettles smashed a two-run homer for the Yankees.

Red Sox 6, Indians 3 at Boston (day game):
Handed a 5-0 lead in the first three innings, Reggie Cleveland gained his first A. L. victory when the Red Sox defeated the Indians, 6-3. Bernie Carbo homered with a man on base for the Red Sox in the first. Three more runs followed in the third when Doug Griffin singled, Carbo was hit by a pitch, Carl Yastrzemski doubled, Dwight Evans beat out an infield single and Bob Didier lofted a sacrifice fly. Cleveland hurled only six innings before yielding to Dick Drago. The Indians scored their runs on homers by Charlie Spikes, Buddy Bell and George Hendrick.

White Sox 5, Royals 4 at Chicago (night game):
With two out in the sixth inning, Bruce Dal Canton walked Ron Santo with the bases loaded, forcing in Dick Allen with the run that gave the White Sox a 5-4 victory over the Royals. Dal Canton, replacing Marty Pattin, retired Buddy Bradford and Carlos May before his troubles started. Allen walked, Bill Melton singled and Ken Henderson drew a pass to load the bases before the pass to Santo accounted for the deciding tally. Fran Healy figured in all four of the Royals' runs, driving in three and scoring one.

A's 5, Angels 1 at Oakland (night game):
The Athletics stepped off against Bill Singer with two runs in the first inning and added a pair on a homer by Reggie Jackson in the third to clinch a 5-1 victory over the Angels. Bert Campaneris was safe on an error, Bill North singled for the first of his three hits and Sal Bando lofted a sacrifice fly for the initial run in the first before Joe Rudi doubled to add another tally.

Rangers 10, Twins 2 at Texas (night game):
After Fergie Jenkins had labored for 5 innings to protect a 2-1 lead, the Rangers made victory certain for the former Cubs' righthander by exploding for eight runs to defeat the Twins, 10-2. Jim Fregosi homered in the third to give the Rangers their 2-1 lead. The Rangers then sent 12 men to bat in their eighth-inning outburst. Jim Sundberg batted in two runs with a triple and Alex Johnson drove in two more with a double.

Reds 8, Padres 4 at Cincinnati (night game):
Dave Concepcion and Tony Perez batted in five runs between them to help build up an 8-0 lead before the Reds put down a rally by the Padres in the ninth inning to emerge with an 8-4 victory. A single by Concepcion drove in one of the Reds' two runs in the first inning. Concepcion doubled in two more in the seventh and then trotted home himself ahead of a homer by Perez. After the Reds added a pair in the eighth, Jack Billingham faltered in the ninth and the Reds had to call on Pedro Borbon in relief to quell the Padres' four-run rally.

Astros 8, Braves 2 at Houston (night game):
Tommy Helms homered with a man on base, and Dave Roberts also drove in two runs with a sacrifice fly and single to help himself to victory as the Astros defeated the Braves, 8-2. Johnny Oates knocked in the Braves' pair with a double in the second inning, but Helms tied the score with his homer in the fourth. Cesar Cedeno sent the Astros ahead with a run-scoring single in the fifth. Roberts hit his sacrifice fly in the sixth when the Astros added three runs and rapped his single when the scoring ended with a final pair in the eighth.

Giants 5, Dodgers 4 at Los Angeles (night game):
Although held to only two hits, the Giants succeeded in defeating the Dodgers, 5-4, thanks in part to an error by Ron Cey and a spell of wildness by Don Sutton. Bobby Bonds homered in the sixth inning for the Giants' first hit off Sutton, who had a 3-1 lead going into the seventh when Cey mishandled a grounder by Garry Maddox. Sutton then walked three straight batters to force in a run before being removed. Chris Speier greeted the arrival of Mike Marshall with a single, driving in two runs to send the Giants ahead. After a sacrifice, what proved to be the winning run followed on an infield out by Chris Arnold. Steve Garvey homered in the Dodgers' half.

Phillies 9, Cubs 2 at Philadelphia (night game):
Dave Cash drove in four runs with three hits and Mike Schmidt contributed a homer as the Phillies defeated the Cubs, 9-2. After Schmidt's smash in the third inning, the Phillies erupted for five runs in the fourth, two scoring on a single by Cash with the bases loaded. In the eighth, after two walks and an error loaded the bases, Jim Lonborg sent one run home with a squeeze bunt and Cash followed with a double to drive in the Phillies' final pair.

Expos 5, Cardinals 4 at St. Louis (night game):
A homer by Barry Foote in the sixth inning proved the winning difference when the Expos defeated the Cardinals, 5-4. Bake McBride hit an inside-the-park homer for the Cards' initial run in the second, but the Expos came back with three runs in the third on the first of Ron Hunt's three singles, a pass to Bob Bailey, single by Hal Breeden and double by Ken Singleton. After singles by Hunt, Willie Davis and Bailey added a run in the fifth, Foote's homer in the sixth won it for the Expos.
