Today's scores and summaries:

Orioles 4, Angels 3 at Baltimore (night game):
A hit batsman and passed ball in the 10th inning set up a run on a two-out single by Rich Coggins and gave the Orioles a 4-3 victory over the Angels. Don Baylor, leading off, was struck by a pitch thrown by Dave Sells and, after a passed ball by Andy Etchebarren, was on second with two away when Coggins delivered his winning hit.

Royals 5, Red Sox 2 at Boston (day game):
The Royals broke up a tie game with three runs in the ninth inning and defeated the Red Sox, 5-2. Cookie Rojas reached base to start the stanza, but was forced by Vada Pinson, who stole second, stopped at third on a bloop single by Al Cowens and scored the go-ahead run on an infield hit by Buck Martinez. The Royals then added two insurance runs on singles by Amos Otis and Jim Wohlford.

White Sox 3, Brewers 2 at Chicago (night game):
A wild pitch by Jim Slaton that allowed Dick Allen to score in the sixth inning proved decisive as the White Sox defeated the Brewers, 3-2, behind the combined three-hit hurling of Jim Kaat and Cy Acosta. The White Sox scored their initial pair in the first on a walk to Jorge Orta, double by Allen and single by Ken Henderson. Kaat gave up a walk and singles by Dave May and George Scott for a Brewer run in the sixth. After Slaton's wild pitch with the bases loaded in the White Sox half, the Brewers threatened in the seventh with a single by Rob Ellis and one-out pass to Darrell Porter, bringing Acosta to the mound in relief of Kaat. Ellis moved to third when Don Money forced Porter and scored on a passed ball by Ed Herrmann, but the Brewers were unable to get any further against Acosta.

Indians 2, A's 1 at Cleveland (day game):
Gaylord Perry, who had lost to Oakland eight times since joining the Indians from the N. L. in 1972, beat the Athletics for the first time, posting a 2-1 victory. Catfush Hunter, who pitched for the A's, allowed only three hits, but was the victim of an intentional pass that backfired. In the seventh inning, after Jack Brohamer walked and Buddy Bell sacrificed, John Ellis struck out. A's manager Alvin Dark then ordered a pass to Chris Chambliss, bringing up Charlie Spikes, who swung at the first pitch to him and doubled, driving in both Brohamer and Chambliss. Perry yielded eight hits, but held the A's scoreless until Ray Fosse homered with two out in the ninth.

Twins 1, Tigers 0 at Detroit (night game):
Playing on a chilly night, there was no heat in the players' bats until Steve Braun homered in the 10th inning to give the Twins a 1-0 victory over the Tigers.

Reds 5, Cubs 3 at Cincinnati (night game):
A two-run homer by Tony Perez in the first inning started the Reds off to a 5-3 victory over the Cubs. The Reds added a run in the sixth on a single by Johnny Bench, a walk, error and sacrifice fly by Terry Crowley before Dave Concepcion drove in the deciding pair with a bases-loaded single in the eighth. The Cubs, who scored on two walks and a pair of infield outs in the fourth, collected only one hit off Roger Nelson before the Reds' starter went out for a pinch-hitter in the sixth. Pedro Borbon, in relief, then gave up two hits and two runs in the ninth on a single by Jose Cardenal, pass to Billy Williams, an infield out and single by George Mitterwald.

Dodgers 5, Phillies 3 at Los Angeles (night game):
Pinch-hitting in the ninth inning, Tom Paciorek smashed a three-run homer to carry the Dodgers to a 5-3 victory over the Phillies. Greg Luzinski hit a two-run homer for the Phillies, who took a 3-2 lead in the ninth on singles by Bill Robinson and Tony Taylor around an infield out. In the Dodgers' half, Ken McMullen singled and gave way to Lee Lacy. When the Phillies attempted a forceout on a grounder by Davey Lopes, Lacy slid into Dave Cash and knocked the ball out of the second baseman's glove, with the result that both runners were safe on the error. Paciorek then batted for Bill Buckner and hit his winning homer.

Padres 10, Mets 2 at San Diego (night game):
Johnny Grubb and Enzo Hernandez each collected three of the Padres' 16 hits in a 10-2 victory over the Mets. Grubb's blows included a three-run homer. Hernandez, in addition to his three hits, also stole three bases.

Expos 8, Giants 4 at San Francisco (night game):
Mike Torrez, who never had lost to the Giants, beat the San Francisco club for the seventh straight time when the Expos erupted for five runs in the sixth inning to gain an 8-4 victory. Bob Bailey homered for the Expos and Bobby Bonds hit one for the Giants, who had a 4-2 lead going into the sixth. An error and two walks loaded the bases to start the Expos' rally. Mike Jorgensen drew a pass from Tom Bradley to force in one run and Don Rose, in relief, walked Ron Hunt to send tying the tally across the plate. Tim Foli then singled, driving in two runs to send the Expos ahead. After a single by Willie Davis reloaded the bases, Ken Singleton singled for the fifth run of the inning.

Cardinals 8, Astros 2 at St. Louis (night game):
The Cardinals knocked out Doug Konieczny during a four-run outburst in the third inning and breezed to an 8-2 victory over the Astros. Johnny Edwards homered off Sonny Siebert for the Astros' pair in the second, but the Cards picked up a run in their half before loading the bases in the third when Ted Sizemore and Reggie Smith singled and Tim McCarver was hit by a pitch. Konieczny then balked to let one run score and two more followed on a single by Bake McBride. Don Wilson relieved, but before the inning ended the Cards added a tally on a wild pitch and single by Ken Reitz. Lou Brock stole three bases, marking the 11th time he had achieved that feat in his career.
