Today's scores and summaries:

Angels 7, Red Sox 2 at Boston (night game):
Tommy McCraw, with just one hit previously this season, drove home four runs with two homers and a pair of doubles as the Angels snapped a five-game losing streak at the Red Sox' expense, 7-2. Bill Singer, after a shaky start, settled down to toss a seven-hitter, stopping Doug Griffin's 15-game hitting streak in the process and dealing the Bosox their sixth defeat in seven games. McCraw homered to tie the score in the second, doubled home a run in the sixth and hit a two-run homer in the seventh to pin the loss on Luis Tiant. Angel rookie Dave Chalk contributed two triples and a sacrifice fly and drove in two runs.

Indians 3, Twins 2 at Minnesota (day game):
Dave Duncan climaxed a two-run, ninth-inning rally with a two-out RBI single to give the Indians a 3-2 victory over the Twins. The Tribe collected four singles in their comeback, the first by John Ellis kayoing starter Vic Albury. Charlie Spikes and Oscar Gamble followed with base hits off reliever Bill Campbell to tie the score. Duncan capped the rally with a ground single over third to make a winner of Steve Kline, who went the distance in his first Cleveland start since being obtained from the Yankees. Harmon Killebrew staked Albury, making his first major league start, to a 2-0 lead in the first with his 548th career homer following a single by Steve Braun. The Indians' first run came in the seventh on a solo homer by George Hendrick, his third in two days.

Astros 18, Cubs 2 at Houston (night game):
Equaling the club single-game scoring record, the Astros got a pair of two-run homers in the same frame from Lee May and battered the Cubs, 18-2. May tied a major league record with his round-trippers during the nine-run sixth inning, becoming the 14th player in history to accomplish the feat. He also had three other hits and drove in five runs. Houston pinned the loss on Bill Bonham with a five-run first, which included two wild pitches by the Cub starter. All Astro starters hit safely to back the seven-hit hurling of Dave Roberts, who went the distance for the third time this season. The Astros had 20 hits off six Cub pitchers, including three singles by rookie Greg Gross.

Dodgers 8, Mets 7 at Los Angeles (night game):
Scoring all their runs in the first two innings, the Dodgers held on to defeat the Mets, 8-7, running their winning streak to seven games. Willie Crawford singled home two runs in the first, another in the second as L. A. sent 16 batters to the plate in the opening two frames. The Mets chased starter Don Sutton in the fifth on Felix Millan's two-run homer and an RBI single by Rusty Staub after a double by Cleon Jones. Jim Brewer got the victory in relief, although he gave up a sixth-inning homer to Wayne Garrett.
