Today's scores and summaries:

Rangers 1, Red Sox 0 at Boston (day game):
Continuing his sensational work since coming over from the Cubs, Fergie Jenkins pitched the Rangers to a 1-0 victory over the Red Sox. Jenkins' duel with Rick Wise was decided in the fourth inning. Cesar Tovar walked and stopped at second on a single by Alex Johnson. Rick Burleson fumbled a grounder by Jeff Burroughs to load the bases and Jim Spencer followed with a sacrifice fly, scoring Tovar. Burleson made a total of three errors, tying the A. L. record for a shortstop playing his first major league game. The victory was Jenkins' fifth in a row and brought his record to 6-1.

Angels 3, Orioles 1 at California (night game):
With a Bat Night crowd of 35,084 on hand, Bill Singer pitched a six-hitter and Bob Oliver drove in two runs to lead the Angels to a 3-1 victory over the Orioles. Denny Doyle, who had three hits for the Angels, singled in the fourth and scored their first run on a sacrifice and a single by Oliver. Doyle singled again in the sixth and subsequently scored again on an infield out by Oliver. The Angels' last run in the eighth was unearned when Brooks Robinson committed his seventh error of the season. The Orioles' lone run also was unearned on an error by Oliver.

Royals 5, Yankees 1 at Kansas City (night game):
Getting six-hit pitching from Paul Splittorff, who turned in his first complete game of the season, the Royals defeated the Yankees, 5-1, to end a five-game losing streak. The Royals started with two runs off Mel Stottlemyre in the first inning. Jim Wohlford singled, moved up on a sacrifice and scored on a single by John Mayberry. In a surprise move, Mayberry then stole second and counted on a double by Hal McRae. The Royals added their other runs in the sixth, one of them scoring on a double steal by Vada Pinson and Fran Healy after Dave Pagan had come in to relieve Stottlemyre.

White Sox 4, Brewers 2 at Milwaukee (day game):
The White Sox gained their fourth straight victory and 10th in their last 13 games by defeating the Brewers, 4-2, behind the combined five-hit pitching of Stan Bahnsen and Terry Forster. The White Sox opened with two runs in the first inning on a walk to Pat Kelly, double by Carlos May and single by Dick Allen. Ken Henderson hit homers in the fourth and ninth to account for the other pair. Bahnsen pitched five innings before leaving the game with pulled a hamstring in his right thigh.

Twins 10, Tigers 0 at Minnesota (day game):
Bert Blyleven ended a personal three-game losing streak by pitching the Twins to a 10-0 victory over the Tigers, who were stopped on their six-game winning string. Blyleven allowed only four hits. Eric Soderholm smashed two homers as the Twins rebounded with 15 hits after losing three straight games. The first three batters in the lineup, Larry Hisle, Rod Carew and Tony Oliva, each collected three hits.

Indians 8, A's 2 at Oakland (day game):
While Gaylord Perry pitched a five-hitter, the Indians knocked out Vida Blue in the fourth inning and defeated the Athletics, 8-2. John Lowenstein, Buddy Bell and George Hendrick each drove in two of the Indians' runs. The loss was Blue's fourth in row. After giving up singletons in the second and third, Blue was charged with five runs in the fourth, but all were unearned on errors by Reggie Jackson and Sal Bando and a passed ball by Gene Tenace. Perry's only troubles came in the seventh when the A's scored on a walk to Jackson, double by Joe Rudi, sacrifice fly by Tenace and single by Pat Bourque.

Cubs 3, Reds 2 at Chicago (day game):
Billy Williams smashed a homer with two out in the 11th inning to lift the Cubs to a 3-2 victory over the Reds. The Cubs were losing, 2-0, going into the ninth but took advantage of a wild throw by Darrel Chaney to tie the score with two unearned runs. After Carmen Fanzone reached second base on Chaney's error, Williams hit a run-scoring single and then crossed the plate himself on a triple by Jerry Morales, sending the game into overtime. Rick Reuschel, who took over in the 11th for his first relief appearance since September 17, 1972, gained the first relief victory of his major league career on Williams' homer.

Astros 3, Cardinals 2 at Houston (night game):
After Lou Brock singled and Reggie Smith homered in the first inning, Dave Roberts settled down and pitched the Astros to a 3-2 victory over the Cardinals, extending their winning streak to five games. The Astros wiped out the Cardinals' early lead in the fourth inning. Greg Gross walked, Cedar Cedeno doubled and Bob Watson was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Lee May tied the score with a double and, after an intentional pass to Milt May, Sonny Siebert uncorked a wild pitch, allowing the Astros' deciding run to score.

A crowd of 12,116 turned out in spite of 40-degree temperatures and winds of up to 35 miles an hour to watch the Expos defeat the Giants, 4-2, to snap a six-game losing streak. The Expos scored all their runs in the third inning. After walks to Jim Cox and Steve Rogers around a single by Barry Foote loaded the bases, John D'Acquisto also passed Ron Hunt to force in the first run. Another scored on an infield out by Tim Foli before Willie Davis decided the game with a two-run single. Rogers, the only Expos' pitcher with a complete game to his credit so far this season, twirled the route for the third time in five starts.

Mets 6, Padres 3 at New York (day game):
With two out in the seventh inning, the Mets erupted for five runs on homers by Rusty Staub and John Milner to defeat the Padres, 6-3. Nate Colbert had a homer for the Padres, who went into the Mets' half of the seventh with a 3-1 lead. After retiring first the two batters, Randy Jones lost control and walked Bud Harrelson and Felix Millan before coming in with the pitch that Staub drilled for a homer. Cleon Jones followed with a single and Milner then wrapped up the Mets' victory with a homer for their final two tallies.

Phillies 7, Dodgers 3 at Philadelphia (night game):
Dave Cash and Bob Boone batted in two runs apiece as the Phillies ganged up on Don Sutton for four runs in the fourth inning and three in the sixth to defeat the Dodgers, 7-3. A safe bunt by Larry Bowa, walk to Greg Luzinski and consecutive RBI singles by Willie Montanez, Bill Robinson, Mike Schmidt and Boone accounted for the Phils' scoring in the fourth. Montanez tripled in the sixth and scored on a single by Boone. After an intentional pass to Schmidt, Cash doubled to drive in the Phillies' final pair. Joe Ferguson homered to produce one of the Dodgers' runs off Lonborg.
