Today's scores and summaries:

Red Sox 4, Yankees 0 at Boston (night game):
Bill Lee yielded only five hits and pitched the Red Sox to a 4-0 victory in the lefthander's second triumph over the Yankees this season and sixth without a defeat for his career. The Red Sox nicked Mel Stottlemyre for a run in the second inning when Juan Beniquez walked, stole second and scored on a single by Dick McAuliffe. Their other runs followed in the third on a single by Carl Yastrzemski with the bases loaded and a safe bunt by Dwight Evans.

Indians 3, Angels 2 at California (night game):
George Hendrick, who scored all of the Indians' runs, doubled in the 11th inning and counted on a single by Ossie Blanco to beat the Angels, 3-2. The Angels had a 2-0 lead when Hendrick scored for the first time on a single by Jack Brohamer in the seventh. The Indians' tying run followed in the ninth when John Lowenstein hit a sacrifice fly after singles by Hendrick, Blanco and Frank Duffy had loaded the bases.

A's 7, Orioles 3 at Oakland (night game):
With help from Rollie Fingers, who relieved in the eighth inning, Vida Blue gained his first victory of the season when the Athletics defeated the Orioles, 7-3. Blue gave up a run in the seventh on a double by Don Baylor and single by Jim Fuller before being lifted after Tommy Davis singled and Earl Williams homered in the eighth. The A's jumped on Jim Palmer for three runs in the first on doubles by Bill North and Bert Campaneris and singles by Reggie Jackson, Deron Johnson and Gene Tenace. A walk to North, stolen base and single by Campaneris added a run in the second. Tenace finished off Palmer with a homer in the third.

Royals 4, Rangers 2 at Texas (night game):
John Mayberry hit a two-run homer off Fergie Jenkins in the eighth inning to carry the Royals to a 4-2 victory over the Rangers. Jenkins, who went into the game with a 6-1 record after winning his last five straight decisions, fell behind in the third inning when the Royals scored on singles by Amos Otis and Hal McRae around a pass to Mayberry. George Brett added a run with a homer in the seventh. The Rangers came back in their half when Mike Hargrove hit a two-run homer off Al Fitzmorris, but Mayberry countered with his winning blow for the Royals.

Cardinals 2, Reds 0 at Cincinnati (night game):
Following the example set by Lynn McGlothen in the previous night's game, John Curtis pitched the Cardinals to a 2-0 victory over the Reds. McGlothen beat the Reds, 1-0. Curtis allowed only three hits. Lou Brock and Reggie Smith combined for both Cardinal runs. Their doubles produced the first tally in the sixth inning and the other run followed in the eighth when Brock singled and Smith hit his second double.

Astros 8, Pirates 6 at Houston (night game):
On the brink of defeat after Dave Parker homered for the Pirates in the top half of the 12th inning, the Astros came back with a three-run blast by Doug Rader to gain an 8-6 victory. Bob Watson singled and Milt May walked ahead of Rader's blow. The Astros scored four runs in the first on two walks, a double by Watson and homer by Cliff Johnson. Ollie Brown made it 5-0 with a circuit clout in the second, but the Pirates rallied for four runs in the fourth and tied the score when Al Oliver hit his second triple of the game in the seventh.

Dodgers 6, Expos 3 at Montreal (night game):
The Dodgers knocked out Ernie McAnally before he could retire a batter in the first inning and scored four runs to pave the way for a 6-3 victory over the Expos. Davey Lopes drew a walk to lead off and crossed the plate on singles by Bill Buckner and Jim Wynn. Steve Garvey doubled, driving in two runs, and then scored himself on a single by Willie Crawford. Ron Cey homered in the fifth and Wynn in the seventh for the other Dodger runs. Ron Fairly hit one with a man on base for the Expos.

Mets 4, Giants 2 at New York (night game):
Jon Matlack equaled his career high for strikeouts in a game with 12 and allowed only four hits while pitching the Mets to a 4-2 victory over the Giants. Matlack did not issue a pass. On the other hand, John D'Acquisto gave up three passes in the second inning when the Mets scored their first three runs. With two out, Ken Boswell walked and scored on a triple by Jerry Grote. Passes to Matlack and Bud Harrelson loaded the bases and Felix Millan capitalized on the opportunity with a two-run single. The Mets added a run in the sixth on singles by Rusty Staub, Boswell and Grote. Bobby Bonds homered for one of the Giants' tallies.

Phillies 4, Padres 0 at Philadelphia (night game):
Posting his first N. L. shutout, Jim Lonborg yielded only two hits and pitched the Phillies to a 4-0 victory over the Padres. A triple by Larry Bowa and infield out by Mike Schmidt in the third inning supplied the only run that Lonborg needed, but the Phillies added a tally in the seventh on doubles by Bob Boone and Dave Cash before locking up the game in the eighth when Schmidt singled and Bill Robinson homered.
