Today's scores and summaries:

Twins 5, Red Sox 4 at Boston (night game):
A balk by Diego Segui allowed Rod Carew to score in the 13th inning and handed the Twins a 5-4 victory over the Red Sox. Luis Gomez started the stanza with a single and was forced by Carew, who then took third on a single by Larry Hisle. Segui started his pitching motion as Jerry Terrell reached down to scoop up some dirt in the batter's box. Apparently catching his spikes on the rubber, Segui fell off balance and plate umpire Merle Anthony called a balk. The Twins started the game with two runs in the first inning, but the Red Sox came back with three. Bernie Carbo homered with a man on base. A double by Cecil Cooper, single by Dwight Evans and sacrifice fly by Carl Yastrzemski made it 4-2 in the third, but the Twins picked up a run on doubles by Carew and Bobby Darwin in the fifth and tied the score in the eighth when Tony Oliva singled and pinch-runner Terrell raced home from first on a double by Jim Holt.

Brewers 7, Angels 5 at California (night game):
A fight that resulted in a dislocated shoulder for Bobby Valentine marred the first inning of a game that saw Athe ngels lose to the Brewers, 7-5. After Dave Chalk singled off Clyde Wright, the Brewers' lefthander threw a wild pitch that sailed past Valentine's head. Valentine rushed to the mound and uncorked a punch before he incurred his injury when thrown to the ground by Wright. Both combatants were ejected from the game. Chalk advanced to second on the pitch that set off the incident and scored on a single by Frank Robinson. The Angels added three runs in the third on a bases-loaded single by Winston Llenas and sacrifice flies by Robinson and Bob Oliver. The Brewers picked up one run in the sixth and closed the gap with a two-run homer by Johnny Briggs in the seventh. Singles by Llenas and Leroy Stanton around a pass to Robinson put the Angels ahead in their half, 5-3, but that lead vanished in the ninth when Robin Yount, Dave May and Don Money singled for one run and Briggs smashed a three-run homer.

Orioles 10, Royals 3 at Kansas City (night game):
The Orioles scored four runs in the first inning and erupted for six more in the seventh to enable Mike Cuellar to beat the Royals, 10-3, for his sixth straight complete-game victory. The route-going performance was the 100th of the veteran lefthander's career in his 200th start for the Orioles. In the first inning, the Orioles started the scoring with a run on singles by Al Bumbry, Rich Coggins and Tommy Davis. After Boog Powell walked to load the bases, Bobby Grich struck out, but Brooks Robinson drove in a run with a single, another scored on a wild pickoff throw by Steve Busby and a fourth run followed on a sacrifice fly by Elrod Hendricks. Grich highlighted the seventh-inning scoring by driving in three runs with a bases-loaded double.

A's 4, Tigers 1 at Oakland (night game):
The Athletics failed to take full advantage of 15 hits, but still scored enough runs to defeat the Tigers, 4-1. Ken Holtzman, who turned in his second complete game of the season, held the Tigers to five hits and gave up their run in the second inning on a double by Ron Cash and single by Aurelio Rodriguez. The A's tied the score in their half when Reggie Jackson, Angel Mangual and Champ Summers singled. The A's then broke the tie with two runs in the third on a walk to Bill North, singles by Bert Campaneris and Sal Bando and double by Jackson. The extra marker followed in the fifth on a single by Campaneris, stolen base and single by Bando.

Rangers 3, Indians 0 at Texas (night game):
Jackie Brown, who made his first start of the season May 25 and beat the Twins, drew his second assignment and pitched the Rangers to a 3-0 victory over the Indians. The righthander allowed only three hits. The Rangers beat Fritz Peterson with a run in the second inning on singles by Jim Fregosi, Leo Cardenas and Jim Sundberg. A pulled muscle in his side forced Peterson's exit in the third. The Rangers added their last two tallies off Bob Johnson in the seventh.

Braves 1, Phillies 0 at Atlanta (night game):
Pinch-hitter Vic Correll, previously batting only .095 on 2-for-21, drove in his first run of the season with a single in the 11th inning to give the Braves a 1-0 victory over the Phillies. Ralph Garr, who collected three of the Braves six hits off Steve Carlton, opened the stanza with a double. Darrell Evans, attempting to bunt, popped up before Correll batted for Rowland Office and delivered the winning hit. Carl Morton pitched the first 10 innings for the Braves and yielded only four hits. The victory went to Tom House, who took over in the 11th and set down the side in order.

Giants 5, Cubs 4 at Chicago (day game):
After the Giants scored four runs in the first inning, Bobby Bonds belted a homer in the seventh to beat the Cubs, 5-4. The Giants started the game by loading the bases with singles by Tito Fuentes and Garry Maddox and a pass to Steve Ontiveros. Gary Thomasson doubled to drive in two runs. Mike Phillips walked to fill the sacks again and Dave Rader singled to plate another pair. The Cubs came back with two runs in the third on singles by Billy Williams, Jose Cardenal and Rick Monday, together with an infield out by Jerry Morales, before tying the score in the eighth on a bases-loaded single by pinch-hitter Chris Ward.

Reds 3, Mets 2 at Cincinnati (night game):
Tony Perez smashed a homer with two out in the 10th inning to carry the Reds to a 3-2 victory over the Mets. The Reds scored their first run in the second when Dave Concepcion forced Perez, stole second and came home on a single by Maerv Rettenmund. Don Gullett singled and Pete Rose doubled for another run in the third. Gullett was working on a two-hitter until the seventh when the Mets tied the score with consecutive homers by Cleon Jones and John Milner. Pedro Borbon and Clay Carroll also pitched for the Reds, with the victory going to Carroll. Harry Parker was the loser after taking over for Jon Matlack, who was lifted for a pinch-hitter in the 10th.

Astros 5, Expos 3 at Montreal (night game):
With two out in the ninth inning, the Astros loaded the bases and scored two runs on a single by Bob Watson to defeat the Expos, 5-3. Greg Gross drew a walk, Roger Metzger singled and Cesar Cedeno also walked before Watson rapped his single off Tom Walker. Gross drove in the Astros' first two runs with a triple in the fifth to tie the score at 2-2. Tommy Helms walked, stole second and scored on a double by Claude Osteen to put the Astros ahead in the seventh, but the Expos tied the game in their half when Hal Breeden doubled and Larry Lintz, running for him, scored on a single by Jim Cox.

Pirates 13, Padres 3 at Pittsburgh (night game):
Bob Robertson rapped two homers and a single, driving in five runs, to set the Pirates' pace in a 13-3 victory over the Padres behind the five-hit pitching of Jerry Reuss. Willie Stargell doubled and scored on a single by Richie Zisk before Robertson hit his first homer of the game in the second inning. The Pirates continued to pile up runs, one of them on Robertson's single in the fifth, before calling it quits with three in the sixth on a triple by Al Oliver, single by Stargell and Robertson's second homer. Cito Gaston and Nate Colbert hit for the circuit to account for the Padres' runs.

Dodgers 5, Cardinals 2 at St. Louis (night game):
A three-run homer by Ron Cey proved the difference as the Dodgers defeated the Cardinals, 5-2. The Cards held a 2-1 lead before Steve Garvey and Joe Ferguson singled in the sixth inning to set the stage for Cey's smash off Bob Gibson. Tommy John, with help from Mike Marshall, gained his eighth victory against one defeat.
