Today's scores and summaries:

Cubs 5, Giants 3 at Chicago (day game):
A misjudged fly ball that hit the wall for a double drove in two runs in the eighth inning and gave the Cubs a 5-3 victory over the Giants. Elias Sosa, coming in to relieve Tom Bradley, retired the first two batters before Jose Cardenal singled and Rick Monday walked. Jerry Morales then flied deep to left field, but Gary Thomasson turned the wrong way in his leap for the ball and it went over his outstretched glove, scoring Cardenal and Monday. The Giants took a 2-0 lead in the first inning, but Billy Williams and Cardenal worked a double steal in the Cubs' half, Williams scoring, and the tying run followed in the fourth on a double by Williams, sacrifice by Cardenal and infield out by Monday. The Giants regained the lead in the sixth on singles by Dave Rader and Tito Fuentes around a sacrifice, but the Cubs pulled even again in their half when Don Kessinger walked, Cardenal singled and Monday grounded out.

Astros 4, Expos 3 at Montreal (night game):
A single by Tommy Helms in the 10th inning scored Milt May from second base and brought the Astros a 4-3 victory over the Expos. May led off with a single, Bob Gallagher followed with a bunt to first baseman Hal Breeden and both runners were safe on a late throw to second in an attempted forceout. Helms followed with his winning hit. The Astros scored twice in the first inning after loading the bases. Bob Watson was hit by a pitch, forcing in one run, and another counted on an infield out by Cliff Johnson. The Astros filled the sacks again in the seventh and made it 3-0 on a sacrifice fly by Johnson. The Expos came back to tie the score in the eighth when Boots Day singled, Ron Hunt walked and Willie Davis hit his first homer of the season.
