Today's scores and summaries:

Orioles 5, Royals 4 at Baltimore (night game):
Pinch-runner Frank Baker raced home from first base on a two-out double by Mark Belanger to climax a three-run rally in the ninth inning that brought the Orioles a 5-4 victory over the Royals. The Orioles used three pinch-runners during their rally. Tommy Davis drew a walk and gave way to Al Bumbry, who was forced by Boog Powell. Enos Cabell ran for Powell and moved to second when Don Baylor walked. Brooks Robinson singled, scoring Cabell. Baylor took third and then crossed the plate on a sacrifice fly by pinch-hitter Elrod Hendricks. Baker, who replaced Robinson on the bases, then scored the winning run on Belanger's two-bagger.

White Sox 7, Yankees 6 at Chicago (night game):
Ending a four-hour, 10-minute game, Jorge Orta drove in Dick Allen with a double in the 15th inning to give the White Sox a 7-6 victory over the Yankees. Allen singled and took second on a sacrifice. After an intentional pass to Ken Henderson, Orta hit Cecil Upshaw's first pitch to him for the winning hit. The Yankees built up a 5-0 lead early in the game, three runs scoring on a double by Graig Nettles, before the White Sox came back with six in the third. Carlos May and Allen batted in two runs apiece. The Yankees tied the score in the ninth when Elliott Maddox doubled and Bobby Murcer singled.

Indians 9, Rangers 3 at Cleveland (night game):
The Indians smashed five homers, two in one inning and three in another, to defeat the Rangers, 9-3, before a subdued but enthusiastic crowd as compared with the riotous throng that forced the previous night's game to be forfeited to the Rangers. Charlie Spikes and George Hendrick started the Indians' attack with solo swats in the second inning. Then in the sixth, Frank Duffy led off with a homer and Oscar Gamble and Dave Duncan each hit for the circuit with two men on base. The Rangers had one round-tripper by Jim Spencer.

A's 9, Tigers 1 at Detroit (night game):
The Athletics, who drew 10 walks and turned five of them into runs, piled up a 9-1 victory over the Tigers with the aid of a grand-slam homer by Gene Tenace. Joe Coleman, who suffered his fifth straight defeat, was lifted with two men on base in the fifth inning. Dave Lemanczyk, in relief, issued an intentional pass to load the bases before Tenace connected for his circuit clout. Deron Johnson added a homer for the A's in the seventh. Vida Blue pitched seven innings, allowed only four hits and gained his fourth straight victory. The Tigers' run came on a homer by Willie Horton.

Angels 6, Brewers 5 at Milwaukee (night game):
Two-run homers by Mickey Rivers and Joe Lahoud helped carry the Angels to a 6-5 victory after they had lost to the Brewers four previous times this season. The Brewers took a 4-2 lead when Rob Ellis singled and John Vukovich homered in the fifth inning. Rivers' smash tied the score in the eighth. The Brewers came back with a run in their half, but in the ninth Leroy Stanton singled and Lahoud hit his homer to give the decision to the Angels.

Red Sox 5, Twins 3 at Minnesota (night game):
The Red Sox provided Luis Tiant with his fifth straight victory by defeating the Twins, 5-3. Boston's scoring started with two runs in the fourth inning on singles by Juan Beniquez, Dwight Evans, Rico Petrocelli and Carlton Fisk. An error by Dave Goltz resulted in an unearned run in the fifth. Rick Burleson drove in Bernie Carbo with a single in the sixth and Tommy Harper clinched the victory with a homer in the ninth. Jerry Terrell, filling in for Rod Carew at second base for the Twins, had two hits and scored twice. Larry Hisle accounted for the Twins' other run with a homer in the seventh inning.

Expos 8, Astros 3 at Houston (night game):
After jumping on Claude Osteen for three runs in the first inning, the Expos waited until the last two stanzas before scoring five more times to defeat the Astros, 8-3. In the first, a single by Ron Hunt, a sacrifice, single by Willie Davis, double by Bob Bailey and single by Hal Breeden gave the Expos their early start. The Astros narrowed their deficit with two runs in the fifth, but the Expos pulled away in the eighth. Mike Jorgensen was hit by a pitch, took second on a balk and scored on a single by Jim Cox. When Milt May took the throw from the outfield and pegged wildly to second, Cox also raced home. The Expos locked up the verdict in the ninth. Jorgensen singled with the bases loaded, driving in two runs, and Cox added the last run with another single.

Dodgers 3, Pirates 2 at Los Angeles (night game):
Doug Rau pitched 7 1/3 hitless innings, but Mike Marshall in relief picked up the victory for the Dodgers when Steve Garvey homered in the ninth to beat the Pirates, 3-2. A double by Joe Ferguson and single by Tom Paciorek gave the Dodgers one run in the second inning and they made it 2-0 with a homer by Ron Cey in the seventh. Richie Zisk drew a walk from Rau in the eighth, moved to second on an infield out by Bob Robertson and scored when Richie Hebner singled for the Pirates' first hit. In the ninth, Al Oliver singled and Willie Stargell walked with one out before Marshall replaced Rau. Zisk then singled, driving in the tying run, but Marshall fanned Robertson and Hebner to end the inning.

Phillies 4, Braves 2 at Philadelphia (night game):
Bob Boone led off with a homer in the third inning and Mike Schmidt hit for the circuit with two men on base to account for all of the Phillies' runs in a 4-2 victory over the Braves. After Boone's first boundary belt of the season, Dave Cash and Larry Bowa singled and Schmidt followed with his 12th homer of the year. One of the Braves' runs off Jim Lonborg was unearned and the other came on a round-tripper by Davey Johnson.

Padres 4, Cubs 3 at San Diego (night game):
The wildness of Ray Burris, who took over in relief in the eighth inning, resulted in the Cubs losing to the Padres, 4-3. Burris first hit Johnny Grubb with a pitch. Rod Gaspar, coming in to run, advanced to third on two successive wild pitches. On Burris' next delivery, Fred Kendall doubled to drive in the Padres' winning run.

Cardinals 4, Giants 1 at San Francisco (day game):
With one pitch, Orlando Pena retired Gary Matthews on a pop-up with the bases loaded and two out in the ninth inning to save the Cardinals' 4-1 victory over the Giants. Reggie Smith drove in two of the Cards' runs with a double and sacrifice fly. The Giants ended Sonny Siebert's string of 29 scoreless innings pitched with an unearned run in the sixth on singles by Ed Goodson and Steve Ontiveros and an error by Ken Reitz. In the ninth, Bruce Miller singled and, after two outs, Bobby Bonds doubled and Dave Kingman walked to set up the call for Pena.
