Today's scores and summaries:

Red Sox 5, A's 3 at Boston (night game):
Mario Guerrero, batting only .236 with 10 previous RBIs to his credit, drove in three runs, including the decisive pair in the eighth inning, to enable the Red Sox to defeat the Athletics, 5-3. Angel Mangual and Deron Johnson hit homers to give the A's a 3-1 lead. The first Red Sox run counted on a double by Rick Burleson and single by Guerrero in the third inning. Carl Yastrzemski batted in two runs with a single to tie the score in the sixth. In the eighth, Rico Petrocelli and Dwight Evans singled and Burleson walked to load the bases and Guerrero followed with his winning single.

Indians 10, White Sox 1 at Chicago (night game):
After the Indians piled up eight runs in the fourth inning, Gaylord Perry breezed to his 11th consecutive victory, beating the White Sox, 10-1. Gaylord's triumph was the 188th of his career. Brother Jim Perry had 199 victories. Their total of 387 games won set a major league record for brothers, breaking the previous mark established by Arthur, John and Walter Clarkson. The Indians' eighth-inning outburst started with a double by George Hendrick and run-scoring single by Joe Lis, who then stole second. Dave Duncan walked. Ed Crosby singled, driving in Lis. Duncan took third and scored on a passed ball. Luis Alvarado and Frank Duffy followed with singles, each driving in a run. Leron Lee then walked and Charlie Spikes capped the inning with a three-run homer. The White Sox run off Perry was unearned.

Tigers 7, Rangers 0 at Detroit (night game):
Mickey Lolich, who started off this season by losing his first four decisions, squared his record at 7-7 by pitching the Tigers to a 7-0 victory over the Rangers. Ed Brinkman, Al Kaline and Aurelio Rodriguez hit homers in the Tigers' support of their veteran lefthander. Brinkman's blow accounted for the first run in the third inning. Kaline connected in the fourth and the Tigers went on to score four more runs on a single by Bill Freehan, double by Jerry Moses, single by Rodriguez, two walks and a single by Gary Sutherland. Rodriguez capped the scoring with his homer in the sixth.

Royals 4, Brewers 3 at Kansas City (night game):
Al Cowens, who remained in the Royals' lineup after entering the game as a pinch-runner in the 11th inning, came to bat in the 13th and knocked in a run with a single to beat the Brewers, 4-3. The Brewers scored all their runs in the second inning and the Royals did not catch up until the seventh when George Brett singled, Fred Patek doubled, Amos Otis walked and John Mayberry rapped a two-out double. In the 13th, with two away, Mayberry walked and took second on a single by Richie Scheinblum before scoring on Cowens' hit.

Orioles 4, Twins 3 at Minnesota (night game):
Although nicked for 10 hits, Mike Cuellar was able to gain his eighth straight victory when the Orioles used only five hits to beat the Twins, 4-3. In the first inning, the Orioles loaded the bases on a single by Paul Blair and walks to Bobby Grich and Earl Williams, setting the stage for a two run single by Don Baylor. Two more walks and a single by Andy Etchebarren filled the sacks again in the fourth, leading to another run on a grounder by Blair. Baylor singled and Brooks Robinson doubled for the fourth Orioles' run in the eighth. The Twins counted twice in their half of the eighth on a single by Craig Kusick with the bases loaded and Danny Thompson then made it close with a homer in the ninth for the Twins' third run.

Yankees 6, Angels 4 at New York (day game):
The Yankees overcame a 2-1 deficit with a four-run outburst in the fourth inning and defeated the Angels, 6-4. Fernando Gonzalez and Jim Mason singled and Elliott Maddox doubled to account for the first two runs in the rally. After a walk to Lou Piniella and a wild pitch, Maddox scored on a sacrifice fly by Bobby Murcer. Thurman Munson then walked and Bill Sudakis followed with a single to drive in the fourth run.

Braves 1, Mets 0 at Atlanta (night game):
Posting his first shutout of the season, Carl Morton was the winner in a duel with Harry Parker when Davey Johnson drove in a run for the Braves with a single in the eighth inning to beat the Mets, 1-0. With one out, Darrell Evans walked in the eighth and stopped at second on a single by Dusty Baker. Hank Aaron lined to Cleon Jones, who dropped the ball but recovered in time to force Evans at third. Johnson then came through with his single to drive in Baker.

Phillies 3, Astros 0 at Houston (night game):
Steve Carlton allowed only five hits and pitched the Phillies to a 3-0 victory over the Astros as the lefthander continued his return to the form that brought him the N.L.'s Cy Young Award in 1972. The Phils staked Carlton to a run off Don Wilson in the first inning. Dave Cash doubled, Larry Bowa walked and, after a double steal, Cash scored on an infield out by Mike Schmidt. The other two runs followed in the sixth on a single by Bill Robinson, a late throw to second on a grounder by Del Unser and a double by Willie Montanez.

Cardinals 6, Dodgers 3 at Los Angeles (day game):
Led by Joe Torre, who batted in three runs, the Cardinals posted a 6-3 victory to complete the sweep of the three-game series with the Dodgers. Torre drove in a run with an infield out in the first inning and homered with a man on base in the third. The Cards added two runs in the fourth on a single by Mike Tyson, forceout by John Curtis on a bunt attempt, double by Lou Brock, single by Ted Sizemore and infield out by Bake McBride. Curtis singled and Brock tripled for the final Cardinal tally in the sixth. Steve Garvey drove in two runs for the Dodgers and Jim Wynn one to finish the game in a tie for the N. L. RBI lead with 53 each.

Reds 3, Expos 1 at Montreal (night game):
Steve Rogers, who had a 7-2 record late in May, suffered his fourth straight setback when the Reds defeated the Expos, 3-1. Bob Bailey doubled and Jim Cox singled for the Expos' run in the fourth inning. Rogers yielded only two hits until the fifth when the Reds jumped on him for two runs on a single by Dan Driessen, double by Terry Crowley and singles by Cesar Geronimo and Dave Concepcion. An insurance run followed in the sixth. Johnny Bench doubled, stopped at third on a single by Tony Perez and scored on a sacrifice fly by Driessen.

Padres 5, Pirates 2 at San Diego (night game):
A homer by Johnny Grubb with two men on base in the sixth inning climaxed a four-run rally that brought the Padres a 5-2 victory over the Pirates. Enzo Hernandez walked to lead off the stanza and crossed the plate on singles by Dave Winfield and Nate Colbert to tie the score at 1-1. Grubb followed with his homer for the Padres' decisive blow.

Cubs 10, Giants 1 at San Francisco (day game):
The Cubs piled up 16 hits, including three singles by Rick Reuschel, who also rapped a sacrifice fly, while beating the Giants, 10-1. Reuschel gave up the Giants' lone run in the second inning on singles by Gary Thomasson, Dave Rader and Tito Fuentes, but the Cubs broke the 1-1 tie with two runs in the third on a walk to Jerry Morales, single by Billy Williams, squeeze bunt by Jose Cardenal and single by Bill Madlock. From there on, the Cubs proceeded to breeze to an easy triumph.
