Rangers 6, Orioles 2 at Baltimore (night game):
A homer by Toby Harrah with two men on base ignited a five-run explosion in the fourth inning that propelled the Rangers to a 6-2 victory over the Orioles. Harrah's homer followed a single by Mike Hargrove and pass to Lenny Randle. With two out, the Rangers went on to add two more runs on a double by Jim Sundberg and singles by Dave Nelson, Cesar Tovar and Jeff Burroughs. Fergie Jenkins, pitching for the Rangers, allowed only three hits until the seventh when the Orioles counted on singles by Bobby Grich and Don Baylor and double by Brooks Robinson.
Royals 3, Indians 1 at Cleveland (night game):
Homers by Amos Otis and Hal McRae supported the pitching of Paul Splittorff as the Royals defeated the Indians, 3-1. Vada Pinson was on base with a single in the fourth inning when Otis homered off Jim Perry. McRae added a solo shot in the ninth. The Indians avoided a shutout with a homer by Joe Lis in their half of the final frame. The crowd of 17,723 at the game brought the Cleveland attendance to 1,009,056, putting the Indians over the million mark for the first time since 1959.
