Today's scores and summaries:

Brewers 7, Red Sox 4 at Boston (day game):
George Scott and Robin Yount drove in two runs apiece to lead the Brewers to a 7-4 victory over the Red Sox. Scott accounted for his RBIs with a bases-loaded single in the third inning. A single by Yount accounted for one of the Brewers' three runs in the third. The Red Sox came back with three in their half on two walks, a triple by Dwight Evans and double by Bob Montgomery, but Yount padded the Brewers' lead with a sacrifice fly in the sixth.

Royals 7, Angels 6 at California (night game):
The batting of Hal McRae and Amos Otis, who had seven hits between them including a homer apiece, brought the Royals a 7-6 victory over the Angels. In the ninth inning, with the score tied, 6-6, Otis drew a one-out walk from Chuck Dobson, stole second for his third theft of the game and continued to third on a wild throw by catcher Ellie Rodriguez. After holding his base on an infield out, Otis scored the winning run when McRae singled.

White Sox 7, A's 5 at Oakland (night game):
Although Gene Tenace hit a grand-slam homer, the Athletics lost to the White Sox, who rallied for six runs in the last two innings to defeat the defending world champions, 7-5. Tenace's blow off Jim Kaat in the third inning staked the A's to a 5-1 lead. The White Sox strung together five singles for three runs in the eighth before winning the game in the ninth. Jorge Orta doubled and, after two out, Ken Henderson walked. Pat Kelly then delivered a pinch-triple for the deciding blow and scored an insurance run on a double by Carlos May.

Twins 3, Rangers 2 at Texas (night game):
After getting a batting lift from Tony Oliva, the Twins scored an unearned run in the sixth inning and defeated the Rangers, 3-2. Oliva set up the Twins' first run with a single in the second inning and hit his second homer in as many games in the fourth. With two out in the sixth, Eric Soderholm singled, stole second, moved to third on a throwing error by catcher Jim Sundberg and scored when Jim Bibby threw the ball away after fielding a grounder by Steve Braun. The Rangers were handed two runs on passes with the bases loaded in their half of the sixth. However, when the Rangers filled the sacks again in the seventh, Tom Burgmeier relieved and struck out Tom Grieve on three pitches to save the game.

Reds 4, Dodgers 3 at Cincinnati (night game):
Catching up with Mike Marshall, the Reds scored two runs off the relief ace in a ninth-inning rally to defeat the Dodgers, 4-3. Bill Buckner hit a two-run homer for the Dodgers, who had a 3-0 lead until Ed Armbrister delivered a pinch-double for the Reds in the sixth and scored on a single by Joe Morgan. Marshall replaced Andy Messersmith in the seventh after a walk to Tony Perez and double by Cesar Geronimo. Marshall walked Ken Griffey on four pitches and yielded a sacrifice fly by Darrel Chaney before retiring the side. In the ninth, Griffey touched off the Reds' rally with a triple and scored the tying run on a single by Chaney. Doug Flynn sacrificed. Dave Concepcion, who was sidelined with a pulled groin muscle, then came off the bench as a pinch-hitter for Pedro Borbon and singled to drive in the winning run.

Astros 14, Braves 2 at Houston (night game):
An injured toe forced J.R. Richard to leave the mound only one out away from receiving credit for an easy victory as the Astros walloped the Braves, 14-2. With two away in the fifth inning, Richard jammed his toe covering first base as Cliff Johnson fumbled a grounder by Ralph Garr. Dave Roberts relieved and gained the decision. The Astros concentrated their scoring to two big innings, getting six runs in the fourth and eight in the seventh.

Cardinals 4, Expos 0 at St. Louis (day game):
Bob Forsch allowed only two hits and faced the minimum of 27 batters while pitching the Cardinals to a 4-0 victory over the Expos. Barry Foote, who beat out an infield hit in the second inning, and Tony Scott, who singled in the seventh, were erased on double plays. The Cardinals decided the outcome with two runs in the first. Lou Brock walked and stole his first base of the season. Bake McBride also drew a pass. Reggie Smith singled, scoring Brock, and Ted Simmons hit a sacrifice fly to plate McBride.
