Today's scores and summaries:

Rangers 7, White Sox 3 at Chicago (day game):
A six-run outburst by the Rangers in the fifth inning enabled Fergie Jenkins to beat the White Sox, 7-3, for his first victory of the season after two defeats. The Rangers began their big inning when Jim Sundberg singled, Cesar Tovar was hit by a pitch and Lenny Randle walked with one out. Jeff Burroughs singled to drive in the first run, Mike Hargrove doubled to add two tallies and Jim Spencer tripled for two more. Toby Harrah capped the inning with a single to score Spencer. Jenkins was lifted after 7 2/3 innings and Steve Foucault, who relieved, gave up a two-run homer by Deron Johnson in the ninth.

Braves 2, Astros 1 at Atlanta (night game):
Capping a route-going performance, Carl Morton singled and scored in the 10th inning to bring the Braves a 2-1 victory over the Astros. Morton gave up the Astros' run in the first on a double by Jose Cruz and single by Cesar Cedeno. The Braves tied the score against Dave Roberts in the fourth on a pass to Dusty Baker and singles by Rowland Office and Vic Correll. After Morton hit his single in the 10th, Ralph Garr struck out. Rod Gilbreath sacrificed, leading to an intentional pass to Darrell Evans. Mike Lum then singled to drive in Morton with the winning run.

Dodgers 5, Reds 4 at Los Angeles (day game):
Gaining revenge for three defeats in Cincinnati, the Dodgers completed their sweep of the four-game series by beating the Reds in 11 innings, 5-4. Dave Concepcion and Cesar Geronimo hit homers for the Reds, who were deprived of a victory when the Dodgers tied the score at 4-4 in the ninth with a run on singles by Davey Lopes, pinch-hitter Manny Mota and Steve Garvey. In the 11th, Jim Wynn singled and stopped at second when Garvey singled for his fifth hit of the game. Willie Crawford then rapped a grounder that went through the legs of Dan Driessen at first base, Wynn scoring on the error.

Cubs 10, Phillies 9 at Philadelphia (day game):
Paced by Rick Monday, who drove in five runs, the Cubs extended their winning streak to six games with a 10-9 victory over the Phillies. A homer by Mike Schmidt helped the Phillies take an early lead, but Monday hit a sacrifice fly in the fourth inning and put the Cubs ahead, 5-2, with a three-run homer in the fifth. After the Phillies picked up a pair in their half, Pete LaCock homered for the Cubs in the sixth to ignite a five-run outburst that included a single by Monday for his fifth RBI.

Expos 7, Pirates 4 at Pittsburgh (night game):
The Expos erupted for five runs in the ninth inning and then stood off a rally by the Pirates to gain a 7-4 victory. Holding a 2-1 lead in what had been a tight game, the Expos began the ninth by kayoing Jerry Reuss with two runs on a single by Larry Parrish and doubles by Pete Mackanin and pinch-hitter Jose Morales. Larry Demery relieved, but failed to stop the Expos. Pepe Mangual singled, driving in Tony Scott, who ran for Morales. Tim Foli also singled and Mike Jorgensen then doubled, scoring Mangual and Foli.

Mets 14, Cardinals 7 at St. Louis (day game):
The Mets, who had scored a total of only 13 runs while losing five straight games, broke out of their slump to defeat the Cardinals, 14-7. The Mets knocked out Lynn McGlothen in the first inning, scoring six runs, but failed to hold the lead. Ted Simmons hit two homers for the Cardinals, who pulled into a 7-7 tie in the fifth before the Mets erupted for five runs in the sixth with a bases-loaded double by Jack Heidemann as the big blow. Ted Sizemore tied the major league record for most errors by a second baseman in one inning, with three.
