Today's scores and summaries:

Orioles 3, Yankees 1 at Baltimore (night game):
The Orioles used bunts and throwing errors by Catfish Hunter and Bobby Bonds to score the decisive run that pinned a 3-1 defeat on the Yankees behind the five-hit hurling of Jim Palmer. Baltimore broke a 1-1 tie in the eighth on bunt singles by Paul Blair and Boby Grich. Hunter threw wildly past first in an attempt to get Grich, Blair scoring when Bonds retrieved the ball in right field and threw wildly to the plate. Grich reached third and, after an intentional walk to Don Baylor, scored the winners' third run on Ken Singleton's sacrifice fly. The Yankees took a 1-0 lead in the second on singles by Thurman Munson and Chris Chambliss, plus an infield out. Baltimore tied the score in the seventh on a bases-loaded sacrifice fly by Jim Northrup.

Red Sox 7, Indians 5 at Cleveland (night game):
The Red Sox wiped out a 2-0 Indian lead when they combined two walks and consecutive doubles by Fred Lynn, Jim Rice and Rico Petrocelli to score four times off loser Gaylord Perry in the fourth on their way to a 7-5 triumph. George Hendrick gave Cleveland the lead with a two-run homer in the first, but Boston never trailed after a four-run flurry in the fourth, although the Indians scored single runs in sixth -- on John Lowenstein's homer -- seventh and eighth. Dick Drago relieved Boston winner Luis Tiant in the eighth with the bases loaded and got pinch-hitter Leron Lee to hit into an inning-ending force play. The Red Sox scored single runs in the fifth and seventh and added an insurance marker in the eighth when Cleveland third baseman Buddy Bell bobbled Bob Montgomery's grounder with the bases loaded.

Rangers 4, Angels 3 at Texas (night game):
The Rangers rallied with three runs in the eighth, two driven home by Cesar Tovar's single, to edge the Angels, 4-3, for Texas' ninth victory in their last 11 games. California touched winner Fergie Jenkins for a run in the first on triples by Jerry Remy and Mickey Rivers and scored again in the third on a double by Remy and Rivers' single. A seventh-inning homer by Bill Sudakis built the lead to 3-1. Dick Lange, who relieved Angel starter Frank Tanana in the seventh, walked pinch-hitter Mike Hargrove and then surrendered singles to Jim Spencer and Roy Smalley, the latter driving in the Rangers' second run. Mickey Scott relieved Lange and struck out Roy Howell before Tovar came through with his third hit of the game, scoring Smalley and Toby Harrah, running for Spencer.

Dodgers 2, Astros 0 at Los Angeles (night game):
Doug Rau limited the Astros to two singles in upping his record to 4-1 as the Dodgers defeated Houston, 2-0. Los Angeles scored their first run in the first inning on Willie Crawford's double, two walks and a sacrifice fly by Rob Cey. Singles by Jim Wynn, Steve Garvey and Joe Ferguson got the final run home in the third. A second-inning single by Doug Rader and third-inning base hit by loser Larry Dierker were the only Astro hits.

Expos 3, Cubs 2 at Montreal (night game):
Home runs by rookies Pepe Mangual and Larry Parrish pushed the Expos past the Cubs, 3-2. Mangual hit for the circuit after Barry Foote walked in the third, while Parrish provided the winning run with a solo shot in the sixth to pin the first defeat on Ray Burris, who had won three. Chicago scored its runs in the seventh with the aid of two wild pitches by winning pitcher Dennis Blair. Pete LaCock walked, Manny Trillo singled and both advanced on a wild pitch. LaCock scored on Adrian Garrett's groundout and Trillo scored on another wild pitch.

Cardinals 11, Phillies 3 at St. Louis (night game):
Seldom-used shortstop Mike Tyson contributed a two-run triple and two-run homer as the Cardinals jumped on Steve Carlton early and cruised to an 11-3 victory over the Phillies. St. Louis built a 9-1 lead in the first two innings at Carlton's expense. Luis Melendez and Tyson contributed two-run triples in a six-run first. Reggie Smith added a two-run homer in the second to kayo Carlton, then Ted Simmons greeted reliever Tom Hilgendorf with a solo homer. Tyson, who was making his first start of the season, drove in the final Cardinal runs with a homer on the heels of Danny Cater's double in the fifth. Bob Gibson, relieved in the eighth by Al Hrabosky, picked up the victory, his first in six starting assignments.
