Today's scores and summaries:

Royals 3, Red Sox 0 at Boston (night game):
Steve Busby yielded only four hits and pitched the Royals to a 3-0 victory over the Red Sox. The Royals broke up the scoreless duel between Busby and Luis Tiant with a run in the sixth inning. Hal McRae was hit by a pitch and was safe on his attempted steal of second when Rick Burleson dropped the throw from catcher Bob Montgomery. Following a walk, Harmon Killebrew singled to drive in McRae. The Royals added their other tallies in the seventh on a double by Al Cowens, safe bunt by Fred Patek and singles by Buck Martinez and Vada Pinson.

Twins 7, Indians 6 at Minnesota (night game):
After failing to hold a 6-2 lead, the Twins scored on a single by Rod Carew with two out in the ninth inning to defeat the Indians, 7-6. The Twins had a two-run homer by Larry Hisle in the first en route to taking their lead. However, the Indians rallied to tie the score in the sixth with a homer by Jack Brohamer, two-run blast by Boog Powell and run-scoring double by Ed Crosby. In the ninth, Steve Braun walked and gave way to pinch-runner Dan Ford, who moved to second on a sacrifice by Danny Thompson. After Tony Oliva was retired as a pinch-hitter for Steve Brye, Carew came through with his winning single.

Brewers 8, Rangers 5 at Texas (night game):
The Brewers won the completion of the previous night's suspended game, 3-2, in the 15th inning before going on to beat the Rangers in the regularly-scheduled contest, 8-5. Hank Aaron drew a walk to set up the winning run in the conclusion of the suspended game and then drove in four runs with a sacrifice fly and homer, the 737th of his career, in the regular contest. An A. L. curfew had halted the clubs in a 2-2 tie after 14 innings in the previous night's game and when play resumed, Aaron drew his walk. Rob Ellis came in to run. Sixto Lezcano sacrificed and Darrell Porter was passed intentionally. Pedro Garcia popped up, but Tim Johnson was safe on an error by relief pitcher Jackie Brown, loading the bases. Brown then hit Don Money with a pitch to force in the winning run. There were six homers in the game that followed. In addition to Aaron's blast, Bobby Mitchell and Lezcano hit round-trippers for the Brewers, while the Rangers had circuit clouts by Roy Howell, Mike Hargrove and Toby Harrah.

Cubs 4, Astros 2 at Chicago (day game):
A double by Tim Hosley in the eighth inning drove in two runs and carried the Cubs to a 4-2 victory over the Astros. Both of the Astros' runs were unearned off Rick Reuschel, who allowed only three hits. The Cubs, who got one tainted tally off J.R. Richard in the fifth inning, tied the score at 2-2 with a homer by Rick Monday in the sixth. Jerry Morales walked in the eighth, Pete LaCock singled and both runners then scored on Hosley's double.

Braves 5, Expos 4 at Montreal (day game):

[DH] Phillies 6, Reds 3 (night game) / Phillies 5, Reds 3 at Philadelphia (night game):
Sparkling relief performances by Tug McGraw, who won the first game and saved the second game, marked the Phillies' 6-3 and 5-3 victories in their sweep of a twi-night doubleheader with the Reds. Cesar Geronimo homered after Johnny Bench was safe on an error to give the Reds a 2-0 lead in the fourth inning of the lidlifter, but the Phillies tied the score in their half on a single by Dick Allen, double by Mike Schmidt and single by Bob Boone. Joe Morgan put the Reds ahead again with a round-tripper in the sixth. However in the ninth, Greg Luzinski walked and Allen reached second when Geronimo dropped his long liner to center field. After an intentional pass to Schmidt, Boone grounded into a double play, erasing Schmidt as Terry Harmon scored, running for Luzinski. The Reds then passed Mike Anderson intentionally, leading to the appearance of Ollie Brown, who batted for McGraw and won the game with his first homer of the season. In the nightcap, Luzinski homered for the Phillies, who broke a 3-3 tie with an unearned run in the seventh inning. Dave Concepcion threw wildly on a grounder by Dave Cash, who reached second on the error. Cash stopped at third on Bowa's fourth straight hit and beat the throw home on a grounder by Garry Maddox. The Phillies iced the verdict with another run in the eighth on a safe bunt by Johnny Oates and double by Anderson.
