Today's scores and summaries:

Orioles 13, Indians 6 at Cleveland (night game):
While Fred Lynn was batting in 10 runs for the Red Sox in another A. L. game, the Orioles got a 10-RBI total from three players in trouncing the Indians, 13-6. Lee May drove in four runs, two with a double in the first inning and two with a homer in the second. Tommy Davis, who collected four hits, and Paul Blair, who had two plus a sacrifice fly, each accounted for three RBIs. Ken Singleton contributed a homer to the Orioles' 19-hit attack. The Indians had homers by Buddy Bell and Boog Powell.

Red Sox 15, Tigers 1 at Detroit (night game):
In a devastating display of power, Fred Lynn batted in 10 runs with three homers and a triple to pace the Red Sox to a 15-1 victory over the Tigers. The rookie outfielder hit a two-run homer in the first inning, a three-run blast in the second and two-run triple in the third. After beating out an infield single in the eighth, Lynn climaxed his slugging show with a three-run homer in the ninth. His 10 RBIs tied a Boston club record and was one less than the A. L. mark of 11 by Tony Lazzeri of the Yankees in 1936. Jim Bottomley set the major league record with 12 runs batted in for the Cardinals in 1924.

Royals 13, Angels 0 at Kansas City (night game):
The Royals, who had defeated Nolan Ryan only twice in 14 previous decisions, jumped on the ace righthander for four runs in the first inning and went on to wallop the Angels, 13-0. Ryan left the game after pulling a groin muscle while pitching to Hal McRae, leadoff batter in the third inning. The Royals began their scoring against Ryan with a single by George Brett, pass to Amos Otis and single by McRae. Another run crossed the plate on an infield out by John Mayberry. After Tony Solaita walked, a single by Fran Healy and double by Cookie Rojas each accounted for an RBI. After Ryan departed, the Royals resumed their attack against three Angel relievers. Solaita hit a two-run homer in the sixth and solo shot in the eighth.

A's 7, Twins 6 at Minnesota (night game):
Joe Rudi hit two homers, including a grand slam, before Sal Bando batted in two runs with a double to enable the Athletics to outlast the Twins, 7-6. Rudi started his slugging with a solo swat in the sixth, but Steve Brye came back with a homer to spark a three-run outburst by the Twins in their half of the sixth, putting them ahead, 4-1. The A's then scored six runs on only two hits in the seventh. After two walks and an error loaded the bases, Rudi hit his grand slam off Vic Albury. The next two batters, Gene Tenace and Billy Williams, were hit by pitches and Bando drove them home with his double for what proved to be the decisive hit because the Twins counted twice on a homer by Johnny Briggs in the ninth.

Brewers 5, Yankees 3 at New York (night game):
Last-out help from Eduardo Rodriguez, who relieved with the bases loaded in the ninth inning, saved a victory for Bill Travers as the Brewers defeated the Yankees, 5-3. The Brewers built up a 4-0 lead before the Yankees narrowed the gap with a three-run homer by Walt Williams in the fifth inning. Sixto Lezcano then gave the Brewers their clinching run with a round-tripper in the seventh.

Rangers 10, White Sox 3 at Texas (night game):
A grand-slam homer by Roy Smalley in the eighth inning sewed up the Rangers' 10-3 victory over the White Sox. The Rangers broke a 2-2 tie with four runs in the sixth. Cesar Tovar was hit by a pitch and Toby Harrah reached base on an error. Jim Fregosi singled to drive in Tovar. Tom Grieve doubled, scoring Harrah and Fregosi. Lenny Randle then capped the outburst with a double to plate Grieve. Smalley hit his slam off Bill Gogolewski after singles by Mike Hargrove and Randle and a pass to Leo Cardenas. The White Sox scored their runs on homers by Bill Melton, Deron Johnson and Carlos May.

Phillies 9, Cubs 7 at Chicago (day game):
A pinch-homer by Tommy Hutton in the ninth inning, following Dick Allen's fourth hit of the game, lifted the Phillies to a 9-7 victory over the Cubs. Allen doubled and scored in the second. Mike Schmidt made it 3-2 with a two-run homer in the fourth, but the Cubs went ahead when Don Kessinger batted in two runs with a triple in their half. Allen doubled again to spark a three-run outburst by the Phillies in the sixth and followed with a homer in the seventh. However, the Cubs came back to gain a 7-7 tie with three unearned runs. With one out in the ninth, Allen singled before Hutton, who was batting only .171, came up as a pinch-hitter and delivered his winning homer.

Reds 6, Braves 1 at Cincinnati (day game):
The Reds handed Blue Moon Odom his third straight defeat, rapping the former American leaguer for three runs in the third inning en route to a 6-1 victory over the Braves. Cesar Geronimo tripled and Jack Billingham singled for the first counter. Pete Rose grounded into a double play but Ken Griffey singled, Joe Morgan walked and both then scored on a double by Johnny Bench. The Reds added their last three runs off reliever Mike Beard, two of them unearned. Odom drove in the Braves' lone run with a double in the third, scoring Larvell Blanks, who had singled. Billingham retired after six innings and Will McEnaney finished the game for the Reds.

Dodgers 4, Astros 0 at Los Angeles (night game):
Ron Cey hit a grand slam in the first inning to provide the Dodgers with a 4-0 victory over the Astros behind the three-hit pitching of Burt Hooton. Cey's homer off Tom Griffin came with two out and followed a single by Bill Buckner and passes to Jim Wynn and Willie Crawford.

Expos 7, Mets 6 at Montreal (night game):
Nate Colbert, who was obtained from the Tigers and collected his first two hits in an Expos' uniform, doubled in the 10th inning and scored on a single by Pete Mackanin to defeat the Mets, 7-6. The Mets broke a 3-3 tie in the eighth, scoring three runs on a double by Ed Kranepool and single by Gene Clines. The Expos came back with a homer by Bob Bailey in their half before tying the score in the ninth. Tony Scott was hit by a pitch and was forced by Pepe Frias. Tim Foli singled and Bailey walked to load the bases. Gary Carter then singled, driving in two runs to send the game into overtime.

Pirates 9, Cardinals 3 at Pittsburgh (night game):
Two second-stringers, Ed Kirkpatrick and Bill Robinson, started in the outfield for the Pirates and both swung big bats to help manhandle the Cardinals. 9-3. Kirkpatrick collected two doubles and two singles in five trips and also made two fine running catches in left field. Robinson batted in three runs with a pair of singles. Ron Reed, who had won three straight starts for the Cardinals since being obtained from the Braves, lasted only three innings and drew the defeat.

Giants 8, Padres 1 at San Francisco (day game):
Derrel Thomas, Von Joshua and Chris Speier each collected three of the Giants' 15 hits in an 8-1 victory over the Padres. Thomas doubled and scored in the first inning, batted in two runs with a single in the fourth and scored again after hitting a single in the sixth. Joshua hit three singles and Speier had a triple and two singles. John Montefusco held the Padres to eight hits, with singles by Bobby Tolan, Johnny Grubb and Enzo Hernandez producing their run in the third inning.
