Today's scores and summaries:

Yankees 3, Orioles 0 at Baltimore (night game):
Catfish Hunter, the A. L.'s active leader in shutouts, posted the 39th of his career, pitching the Yankees to a 3-0 victory over the Orioles. Hunter got only run he actually needed when Lou Piniella doubled for an RBI in the first inning, but the Yankees clinched the verdict when designated hitter Thurman Munson singled home a pair in the fifth.

Rangers 5, A's 1 at Texas (night game):
Making his first start for the Rangers, Nelson Briles surrendered only four hits and beat the Athletics, 5-1. Jeff Burroughs homered with two men on base for the Rangers, who handed the A's their first defeat of the season. Tom Grieve added a solo shot to the attack.

Astros 5, Giants 0 at Houston (night game):
The Astros, who surrendered 33 runs in losing a three-game series in Cincinnati, got shutout work from three pitchers and defeated the Giants, 5-0. The attendance was only 10,510, lowest for a home opener in Astros' history.
