Today's scores and summaries:

Red Sox 2, Twins 0 at Boston (day game):
Fergie Jenkins, winning for the first time in a Red Sox uniform, shut out the Twins, 2-0, in a Patriots' Day game that started at 11 a.m. The Red Sox scored in the fifth inning on a walk to Carlton Fisk, double by Dwight Evans and single by Rico Petrocelli before adding their other run in the sixth on a double by Denny Doyle, a wild pitch and sacrifice fly by Fred Lynn.

Angels 9, Orioles 4 at California (night game):
Sewing up the victory, Dave Chalk hit a bases-loaded triple in the seventh inning as the Angels defeated the Orioles, 9-4. After hitting his triple, Chalk also scored when Dave Duncan dropped the throw to the plate. Bobby Bonds, who had been out of action with a broken finger, made his first appearance with the Angels and collected three singles.

A's 6, Tigers 5 at Oakland (night game):
Capitalizing on two walks in the 10th inning, Phil Garner drove in a run with a single to give the Athletics a 6-5 victory over the Tigers. The A's, after falling behind in the ninth, tied the score and sent the game into overtime on a double by Bill North, a sacrifice and double by Joe Rudi.

Expos 4, Cubs 3 at Chicago (day game):
Successive doubles by Nate Colbert and Mike Jorgensen in the seventh inning provided the Expos with what proved to be their winning run in a 4-3 victory over the Cubs. Earlier in the game, Pete Mackanin hit a two-run homer for the Expos in the fourth. It was the 13th round-tripper of his career, but only his first with a man on base. Jerry Morales, hitting safely in his ninth straight game, hit a round-tripper for the Cubs in the ninth.

Astros 8, Dodgers 3 at Houston (night game):
The Astros erupted for four runs off Don Sutton in the first inning and added four more in the fourth to defeat the Dodgers, 8-3. Jose Cruz tripled with the bases loaded for the Astros' big blow in their opening outburst.

Mets 4, Cardinals 3 at St. Louis (night game):
Hitless in seven previous trips to the plate, Del Unser smashed a homer in the 17th inning to carry the Mets to a 4-3 victory over the Cardinals. The Mets held a 3-2 lead until the Cards pulled even with doubles by Vic Harris and Ron Fairly in the seventh.
