Today's scores and summaries:

A's 11, Orioles 1 at Baltimore (night game):
The Orioles collected only two hits off Mike Torrez, their former teammate, and were bombed by the Athletics, 11-1. Sal Bando drove in three runs for the A's with a single and homer.

White Sox 8, Tigers 4 at Chicago (night game):
Snapping their five-game losing streak, the White Sox piled up 14 hits and defeated the Tigers, 8-4. Jorge Orta started the scoring with a homer in the fourth inning, igniting a three-run outburst. The White Sox added a pair in the fifth and the final three runs in the sixth. Willie Horton homered for the Tigers.

Indians 5, Angels 2 at Cleveland (night game):
George Hendrick belted a three-run homer in the ninth inning to power the Indians to a 5-2 victory over the Angels. Dick Drago, in relief, pitched the Angels out of a bases-loaded jam in the eighth, but failed to retire a batter in the ninth. Buddy Bell led off with a double, Rico Carty beat out a bunt and Hendrick then decided the game with his homer.

Yankees 5, Royals 3 at Kansas City (night game):
Turning on the power with two triples and a homer in the fifth inning, the Yankees enabled Catfish Hunter to defeat the Royals, 5-3. Fred Stanley and Mickey Rivers whacked triples and Thurman Munson followed with a homer to give the Yankees a 4-2 lead. The Royals picked up a run in their half of the fifth frame, but Rivers singled in the ninth to drive home an insurance tally for the Yankees.

Rangers 6, Red Sox 5 at Texas (night game):
Falling on Fergie Jenkins, their former teammate, for nine hits in 6 1/3 innings, the Rangers defeated the Red Sox, 6-5. Tom Grieve homered in the fifth and the Rangers then jumped on Jenkins for three runs in the sixth when John Ellis doubled with the bases loaded. Two more runs driven in by Jeff Burroughs and Roy Howell in the seventh enabled the Rangers to stand off rallies by the Red Sox in the last two frames.

Reds 7, Expos 2 at Cincinnati (night game):
Entering the game with an average of .212, Johnny Bench continued to pound his way out of his slump by smashing two homers and a single to lead the Reds to a 7-2 victory over the Expos. Bench's blows accounted for three RBIs. Gary Nolan, who started for the Reds and gave way to Rawly Eastwick in the ninth, received credit for his fifth straight victory over the Expos since last losing to the Montreal club September 2, 1972.

Dodgers 5, Cardinals 1 at Los Angeles (night game):
Ted Sizemore, back with the Dodgers after five seasons with the Cardinals, rapped three hits including a run-scoring double, to help beat his former teammates, 5-1. Sizemore went into the game hitting only .197. After the Cards scored in the second inning on a double by Ron Fairly and single by Hector Cruz, Steve Yeager homered in the Dodgers' half. Then in the third, Glenn Burke singled and Sizemore doubled to break the tie and send the Dodgers ahead to stay.

Mets 3, Astros 1 at New York (night game):
Working out of a first-inning jam, Jon Matlack defeated the Astros, 3-1, for the Mets' seventh straight victory. The Astros had runners on second and third with none out in the opening frame, but Matlack retired Cesar Cedeno on a pop fly and struck out Bob Watson and Cliff Johnson. The Mets counted twice in their half on an error and wild pitch.

Pirates 4, Padres 3 at San Diego (night game):
Although forced to call on two relief pitchers in the ninth inning, the Pirates emerged with a 4-3 victory over the Padres. Dave Parker and Rennie Stennett hit homers for the Pirates. Jim Rooker, who started, allowed only two hits until being lifted in the ninth when Merv Rettenmund singled. Ramon Hernandez, who relieved, yielded a single by Jerry Turner and sacrifice fly by Tito Fuentes before giving way to Bob Moose, who gave up a sacrifice fly by Doug Rader and then retired Dave Winfield to end the game.

Cubs 5, Giants 2 at San Francisco (night game):
Rick Reuschel pitched the first complete game to the credit of the Cubs' staff this season and beat the Giants, 5-2. Jose Cardenal and Manny Trillo each drove in two runs for the Cubs.
