Today's scores and summaries:

Yankees 4, Angels 2 at California (night game):
Ed Figueroa and Mickey Rivers, both winter-deal acquisitions from the Angels, took leading roles as the Yankees defeated their former teammates, 4-2. Figueroa picked up credit for the decision, pitching 7 2/3 innings, while Rivers had three hits, stole two bases and scored twice. Chris Chambliss hit safely in his 15th straight game, rapping a pair of singles.

Cardinals 5, Braves 4 at Atlanta (night game):
Vic Harris, who had four hits in the previous night's game, came back with three more as the Cardinals defeated the Braves, 5-4. The loss was the 10th straight for the Braves. Harris drove in two runs with a single in the fifth inning when the Cardinals scored four times. Then in the eighth, Willie Crawford singled and Don Kessinger doubled to drive in what proved to be the winning run.

Padres 4, Expos 1 at Montreal (night game):
With the Montreal Canadiens and New York Islanders appearing on television in their National Hockey League semifinal playoff series, the smallest crowd in Jarry Park's history, 3,606, turned out to watch the Padres defeat the Expos, 4-1. Jerry White homered in the first inning for the Expos' run. Dave Winfield tied the score with a round-tripper in the second and then sent the Padres ahead when he singled in the fourth and scored on singles by Hector Torres and Fred Kendall.

Mets 4, Reds 2 at New York (day game):
Three unearned runs in the first inning sent the Mets on their way to a 4-2 victory over the Reds. Wayne Garrett led off with a walk, reached second on a wild pitch and was safe at third when Dave Concepcion dropped a grounder by Felix Millan. Joe Torre popped out, but Dave Kingman singled to drive in Garrett for his 24th RBI of the season. One out later, Ed Kranepool doubled to score Millan and Kingman.

Pirates 3, Giants 0 at Pittsburgh (night game):
The slumping Giants collected only five hits off Jim Rooker and Larry Demery and lost to the Pirates, 3-0, for their fifth defeat in a row and 10th in the last 11 games. Rennie Stennett had three hits for the Pirates, who gained their fifth victory in the last six games.
