Today's scores and summaries:

Orioles 8, Tigers 4 at Baltimore (night game):
Ken Singleton's first A. L. grand slam with two outs in the ninth inning sent the Orioles to an 8-4 victory over the Tigers. The slam followed a single by Andres Mora and walks to Lee May and pinch-hitter Tommy Harper. Ron LeFlore extended his hitting streak to 24 consecutive games in the third when he doubled and scored on Alex Johnson's single.

White Sox 7, A's 2 at Chicago (day game):
Jim Spencer hit a tie-breaking home run in the sixth inning and Bucky Dent drilled three hits and drove in two runs as the White Sox downed the A's, 7-2, for their fifth consecutive victory. It was Spencer's first homer since opening day. The White Sox scored all four of their seventh-inning runs after two outs when Dent singled, Jorge Orta was hit by a pitch, Rich Coggins hit an RBI single, Spencer added an RBI double and Don Baylor errored at first base scoring Coggins and Spencer.

Brewers 6, Indians 5 at Cleveland (day game):
The Brewers broke a 4-4 tie with two runs in the sixth inning to deal the Indians their fourth straight setback, 6-5. With two out in the sixth, Bill Sharp rapped his fourth single and Don Money lashed his third hit of the game. Darrell Porter and Hank Aaron followed with RBI singles. Tom Murphy ended the game with a strikeout of Buddy Bell after the Indians scored on singles by George Hendrick, Charlie Spikes and Frank Robinson and then loaded the bases on Mike Hegan's error. The setback was the 10th in 13 games for the Indians, who bounced into four double plays.

Twins 5, Royals 3 at Minnesota (night game):
Lyman Bostock's two-run triple in the sixth inning and the seven-hit pitching of Dave Goltz sent the Twins to a 5-3 victory over the Royals, who suffered just their fourth loss in 20 games. With two outs in the sixth, Craig Kusick and Bob Randall singled before Bostock tripled. Larry Hisle added an RBI single to cap the three-run burst. The final Twins' run came in the seventh on Danny Thompson's double and Bostock's single.

Yankees 1, Red Sox 0 at New York (night game):
Carlos May singled with two out in the 11th inning to score Willie Randolph from second base and give the Yankees a 1-0 victory over the Red Sox behind the three-hit pitching of Catfish Hunter. Randolph led off the 11th with a walk and advanced to second base on Roy White's sacrifice.

Angels 5, Rangers 1 at Texas (night game):
Frank Tanana fired a six-hitter and struck out 10 as the Angels downed the Rangers, 5-1. The Angels broke the game open with a three-run seventh inning. Bobby Bonds began the rally with a single. After Joe Lahoud walked, both runners advanced on Bill Singer's wild pitch. Bonds scored on Bill Melton's infield grounder and Lahoud scored on a single by Andy Etchebarren. After Steve Hargan relieved, Dave Chalk walked and Ron Jackson added an RBI single. Tanana lost the shutout on ninth-inning singles by Gene Clines, Ken Pape and Toby Harrah.

Dodgers 6, Astros 5 at Los Angeles (night game):
Manny Mota's sacrifice fly with the bases loaded in the 13th inning gave the Dodgers a 6-5 victory over the Astros. Joe Ferguson led off the 13th with a single. When Steve Yeager attempted to sacrifice, losing pitcher Paul Siebert threw wildly into center field. Bill Russell was walked intentionally and Mota followed with a fly to right. Bob Watson accounted for the Astro runs with a three-run homer in the first and two-run shot in the fifth. The Dodgers tied the game in the seventh when Bill Buckner singled to kayo Gil Rondon before Dusty Baker singled and Steve Garvey hit an RBI double off Ken Forsch.

Mets 4, Expos 1 at Montreal (night game):
The Mets rallied for four runs in the eighth inning to defeat the Expos, 4-1. Pinch-hitter Bruce Boisclair led off the rally with a single before a walk to Wayne Garrett and single by Felix Millan loaded the bases. Reliever Wayne Granger walked Ed Kranepool to tie the score, 1-1, and Del Unser followed with a two-run single. Jerry Grote singled for the final run.

Cardinals 7, Phillies 6 at Philadelphia (night game):
Reggie Smith hit three home runs and drove in five runs as the Cardinals defeated the Phillies, 7-6, to end the Phils' six-game winning streak. Smith's third blow came off Tug McGraw to break a 6-6 tie in the ninth inning. Smith connected his previous two times at bat, with two on off Jim Kaat in the fifth and with nobody on base off Ron Reed in the seventh. Smith also made a sensational catch in the ninth inning. Don Kessinger, who had made two fielding gems, made a diving catch on a liner by Garry Maddox to end the game and give Al Hrabosky his first victory of the season. Dick Allen's two-run shot, his first homer of the season, highlighted a four-run fifth.

Pirates 4, Cubs 3 at Pittsburgh (day game):
Mario Mendoza's sacrifice fly in the 16th inning gave the Pirates a 4-3 victory over the Cubs. Willie Stargell and Richie Zisk started the final rally with singles and Bill Robinson sacrificed the runners to second and third base. After Duffy Dyer was intentionally walked, Mendoza, who had entered in the 10th after Frank Taveras was lifted for a pinch-hitter, hit Paul Reuschel's second pitch to left field. The Pirates had tied the score at 3-3 in the seventh on Zisk's home run. Bob Moose gained his first victory in 12 appearances and has not allowed an earned run in 22 1/3 innings.

Reds 3, Padres 2 at San Diego (night game):
Pat Zachry notched his third straight victory as the Reds edged the Padres, 3-2. The Reds scored three runs in the third inning on singles by Ken Griffey and Johnny Bench, an RBI single by Tony Perez and two-run double by George Foster. The Padres scored in the second on a Dave Winfield double and Doug Rader single and in the sixth on a double by Willie McCovey and single by Rader, who lashed out three hits. Loser Alan Foster was making his first pitching start in almost a year, since June 1, 1975.

Braves 3, Giants 2 at San Francisco (day game):
Roger Moret posted his first N. L. victory as the Braves triumphed 3-2 over the Giants, who suffered their 21st loss in 26 games. Moret allowed an unearned run in the first, then blanked the Giants until being lifted in the sixth. Jim Wynn homered to break a 1-1 tie in the third and the Braves took a 3-1 edge in the sixth when Darrell Evans singled and scored on Biff Pocoroba's double.
