Tigers 10, Orioles 6 at Baltimore (day game):
Ron LeFlore extended his hitting streak to 25 games with four singles in pacing the Tigers to a 10-6 win over the Orioles. Detroit snapped their losing skein at six games with a six-run eighth, pounding four Baltimore pitchers for 17 hits. The Orioles wasted homers by Reggie Jackson, Bobby Grich and Lee May.

[DH] White Sox 3, A's 1 (day game) / White Sox 4, A's 3 at Chicago (day game):
The Chisox ran their winning streak to seven straight with a doubleheader sweep over the A's, 3-1 and 4-3. The losses extended the A's losing skein to a club-record eight games. Pat Kelly's double in the seventh scored Jack Brohamer with the tie-breaking run in the opener. Clay Carroll picked up the win in relief of Terry Forster. Bucky Dent's single drove in Kelly with the decisive run in the fifth inning of the nightcap.

[DH] Indians 2, Brewers 1 (day game) / Indians 8, Brewers 5 at Cleveland (day game):
The Indians snapped a four-game losing streak in sweeping a doubleheader from the Brewers, 2-1 and 8-5. Jackie Brown needed only three more outs for his second successive shutout in the opener. Then a double by Darrell Porter and Bob Hansen's single scored the Milwaukee run. Relievers Dave LaRoche and Jim Kern put out the fire. DH John Lowenstein drove in four runs with a double and single for the Indians in the nightcap. After getting a save in the opener, Kern blanked the Brewers in six innings to get the win in the second game after relieving Fritz Peterson.

Twins 3, Royals 1 at Minnesota (day game):
The Twins reeled off four double plays to help Bert Blyleven turn back the Royals, 3-1, for his fourth win. Tom Burgmeier and Bill Campbell came on in the eighth to shut off a Kansas City rally. Dan Ford and Craig Kusick socked run-scoring doubles for the Twins in the third.

Red Sox 7, Yankees 6 at New York (day game):
Jim Rice's two-run homer in the seventh sparked the Red Sox to a 7-6 victory over the Yankees before 52,994, the biggest turnout of the year in new Yankee Stadium. Carl Yastrzemski walked with the bases loaded in the ninth for the run the Red Sox needed to win.

Rangers 9, Angels 0 at Texas (night game):
The Rangers scored nine runs in the second inning, routing Nolan Ryan, to defeat the Angels, 9-0, in a game called in the sixth inning because of rain and a hail storm. The loser of his fourth start in a row, Ryan walked five in the second inning and gave up doubles to Tom Grieve and Dave Moates before being relieved by Andy Hassler. Grieve also homered in the second off Hassler. Jim Umbarger coasted to his fourth win.

Dodgers 6, Astros 5 at Los Angeles (day game):
Manny Mota, winning a second straight game as a pinch-hitter, drove in the deciding run with a single in the 10th inning to enable the Dodgers to edge the Astros, 6-5, Mota delivered the game-winning hit with the bases full after the Dodgers had scored the tying run on an error by Rob Andrews. Jerry DaVanon's sacrifice fly had given the Astros a 5-4 lead in the top of the 10th.

Expos 5, Mets 4 at Montreal (day game):
The Expos scored two runs in the seventh inning to overcome the Mets, 5-4, in a Jacket Day game that attracted Jarry Park's largest crowd of the season, 22,861. After singles by Pepe Mangual and Jerry White, Andre Thornton produced the tying run with a sacrifice fly and Gary Carter ended an 0-for14 slump with a single to score the winning run.

Phillies 3, Cardinals 2 at Philadelphia (day game):
Al Hrabosky walked Larry Bowa on four pitches with the bases loaded in the 11th inning to force home the winning run as the Phillies shaded the Cardinals, 3-2.

[DH] Cubs 6, Pirates 5 (day game) / Pirates 9, Cubs 1 at Pittsburgh (day game):
A throwing error by Dave Giusti on a pickoff attempt at second base enabled the Cubs to score the deciding run in a 6-5 victory over the Pirates in the opening game of a doubleheader. Al Oliver and Bill Robinson hit two-run homers and winning pitcher Jerry Reuss delivered a two-run triple as the Pirates won the second game, 9-1.

Reds 11, Padres 0 at San Diego (day game):
With Jack Billingham pitching a three-hitter and George Foster pounding out four hits, including a grand-slam homer in the sixth inning, the Reds routed the Padres, 11-0. Dave Concepcion also had four hits for the Reds.

[DH] Braves 9, Giants 2 (day game) / Giants 1, Braves 0 at San Francisco (day game):
The Braves won the first game of a doubleheader, 9-2, behind the five-hit pitching of Dick Ruthven and Elias Sosa, but John Montefusco fired a three-hitter as the Giants took the nightcap, 1-0. Willie Montanez hit a homer in the fifth inning of the opener, the first for the Giants in 133 innings. Chris Speier's infield single with the bases loaded produced the only run of the nightcap.
