Indians 4, Orioles 0 at Baltimore (night game):
With Dennis Eckersley and Stan Thomas collaborating on a one-hitter, the Indians beat the Orioles, 4-0. Al Bumbry's leadoff single in the first was the only hit off Eckersley, who breezed through eight innings before tiring in the ninth.

Red Sox 3, Tigers 0 at Boston (night game):
Rick Wise outdueled Dave Roberts in pitching the Red Sox to a 3-0 victory over the Tigers. Carlton Fisk singled and scored the first run in the fourth then singled, driving in two runs in the sixth. Alex Johnson singled in the first and Ron LeFlore singled in the third, extending his hitting streak to 26 games, for the only safeties off Wise.

White Sox 5, Angels 3 at California (night game):
The White Sox rallied for four runs in the eighth inning, on Brian Downing's double with the bases full, to beat the Angels, 5-3, and win their eighth straight game.

Yankees 5, Brewers 2 at New York (night game):
Oscar Gamble hit a three-run homer in the first, when the Yankees scored five runs, to spark a 5-2 triumph over the Brewers. Ed Figueroa yielded only three hits over the last seven innings in pitching his fourth complete game.

A's 12, Twins 7 at Oakland (night game):
The Athletics broke loose for seven runs in the fifth inning and defeated the Twins, 12-7, to end an eight-game losing streak. Three walks, two errors, three wild pitches and three hits, one a two-run double by Claudell Washington, marked the wild inning. Bert Campaneris stole five bases, giving him a career total of 528.

Royals 14, Rangers 11 at Texas (night game):
George Brett, Hal McRae and Frank White hit home runs in a five-run first inning that sent the Royals on their way to a 14-11 triumph over the Rangers. Seven Texas errors helped Kansas City score seven unearned runs, five coming in a six-run fourth.

Phillies 7, Mets 1 at Philadelphia (night game):
Greg Luzinski hit a two-run homer in the first inning and the Phillies scored four unearned runs in the second en route to a 7-1 victory over the Mets and their 17th triumph in 20 games.

Expos 4, Pirates 2 at Pittsburgh (night game):
Fifth-inning homers by Tim Foli and Barry Foote powered the Expos to a 4-2 triumph over the Pirates. Foli delivered with one on to help Woodie Fryman win his sixth game, with help from Fred Scherman in the last two innings.

Padres 2, Dodgers 0 at San Diego (night game):
Dave Freisleben, called up from the Pacific Coast League only a week before, pitched a six-hitter as the Padres defeated the Dodgers, 2-0, ending Los Angeles' six-game winning streak.

Giants 5, Astros 1 at San Francisco (day game):
Larry Herndon collected three hits, including his first major league homer, to support the pitching of Rob Dressler and Gary Lavelle as the Giants turned back the Astros, 5-1. Dressler allowed seven hits in eight innings to gain his first victory of the season.
