Indians 3, Orioles 1 at Baltimore (night game):
Pat Dobson pitched his fourth complete game in a row in hurling the Indians to their fourth straight victory, turning back the Orioles' Palmer, 3-1. Alan Ashby and Frank Duffy stroked RBI singles in the second and DH Rco Carty logged his 24th RBI of the season for Cleveland with a sacrifice fly in the fifth. Dave Duncan, Al Bumbry and Bobby Grich singled for the Oriole run in the third.

Red Sox 2, Tigers 0 at Boston (night game):
Luis Tiant hurled a seven-hit shutout and Carl Yastrzemski belted a two-run homer in the fourth as the Red Sox edged the Tigers, 2-0. The Tigers' Ron LeFlore doubled in the fifth to extend his hitting streak to 27 games. Mark Fidrych went the route for Detroit, yielding six hits.

White Sox 7, Angels 1 at California (night game):
Ex-reliever Rich Gossage went the route for the White Sox to post a 7-1 victory over the Angels, Chicago's ninth straight win. Catcher Brian Downing singled home two runs in the eighth after logging four RBIs against the Angels the previous night. Pat Kelly walloped a two-run homer and Jim Spencer drove in two runs with a single during the Chisox' four-run ninth.

Brewers 1, Yankees 0 at New York (night game):
Lefty Bill Travers hurled the Brewers to a 1-0 victory over the Yankees' Dock Ellis as each yielded only four hits. George Scott's fourth-inning sacrifice fly sent Darrell Porter across the plate. Travers fanned eight in his second consecutive four-hit win.

A's 6, Twins 1 at Oakland (night game):
Sal Bando's sixth home run of the season and Vida Blue's eight-hitter on the mound led the A's to a 6-1 victory over the Twins. Bando homered in the second following Billy Williams' double. During a four-run third, Williams drove in two runs with a single off loser Jim Hughes.

Cardinals 5, Cubs 2 at Chicago (day game):
Willie Crawford had three hits, including his third homer, and drove in three runs in leading the Cardinals to a 5-2 victory over the Cubs.

Reds 10, Braves 4 at Cincinnati (night game):
George Foster belted his sixth and seventh homers of the season and drove in five runs for the second game in succession as the Reds routed the Braves, 10-4.

Phillies 8, Mets 4 at Philadelphia (night game):
The Phillies spotted the Mets a three-run lead in the first, then came on strong to score their second victory over Tom Seaver in a week, 8-4. Jay Johnstone led the 17-hit attack with four hits, including a homer.

Expos 6, Pirates 3 at Pittsburgh (night game):
A two-run double by Larry Parrish spiced a four-run uprising in the 11th inning that carried the Expos to a 6-3 triumph over the Pirates. Parrish hit a homer in the second for the Expos' first run. The game-winning rally came against Bob Moose, who had not yielded a run in 13 previous appearances.

Padres 5, Dodgers 2 at San Diego (night game):
Randy Jones, backed by Doug Rader's three-run homer and run-producing double, pitched the Padres to a 5-2 victory over the Dodgers and became the first nine-game winner in the major leagues. It was Jones' fourth straight triumph and eighth complete game in 11 starts.

Giants 7, Astros 6 at San Francisco (night game):
Willie Montanez' fourth hit of the game was a two-run homer in the eighth that produced the Giants' 7-6 victory over the Astros. Bobby Murcer's third career grand slam, in the fifth inning, was his first homer since opening day, when he hit two.
