Today's scores and summaries:

White Sox 1, Angels 0 at California (night game):
Ken Brett, who pitched 8 2/3 hitless innings, and Clay Carroll teamed up on a masterful two-hitter, enabling the White Sox to edge the Angels, 1-0, in 11 innings and post their 10th consecutive victory. Successive singles by Jack Brohamer, Pat Kelly and Bucky Dent produced the only run of the game. An infield hit by Jerry Remy with two out in ninth, and Bill Melton's single in the 10th were the only safeties off Brett. Carroll worked a one-two-three 11th. Losing pitcher Don Kirkwood yielded seven hits in going the route.

[DH] Orioles 6, Tigers 0 (night game) / Tigers 6, Orioles 2 at Detroit (night game):
Lee May hit his sixth homer and drove in four runs as the Orioles trimmed the Tigers, 6-0, behind Doyle Alexander's seven-hit pitching in the first game of a twi-night doubleheader. The Tigers came back to win the second game, 6-2, on two-run homers by Ron LeFlore and Ben Oglivie. LeFlore's first homer of the season extended his hitting streak to 29 games. He singled in the first game.

Brewers 6, Red Sox 2 at Milwaukee (night game):
Two-run homers by Goerge Scott and Gorman Thomas provided the firepower as Jim Slaton pitched the Brewers to a 6-2 victory over the Red Sox and became the American League's first seven-game winner.

Yankees 4, Indians 3 at New York (night game):
Trailing, 3-1, the Yankees scored three runs in the last of the seventh to defeat the Indians, 4-3. After Graig Nettles tied the score with a two-run homer, Don Hood walked Rick Dempsey and Sandy Alomar, running for Dempsey, stole second, setting the stage for Oscar Gamble's game-winning pinch-single. A two-run homer by Boog Powell and solo clout by Alan Ashby, at the expense of Catfish Hunter, had given the Tribe the lead in the top of the seventh.

Twins 6, A's 1 at Oakland (night game):
The Twins defeated the Athletics, 6-1, with Dave Goltz allowing four hits and notching eight strikeouts in his fourth straight complete game. Dan Ford hit his eighth homer in the fifth, snapping a 1-1 tie.

[DH] Royals 14, Rangers 2 (day game) / Rangers 5, Royals 4 at Texas (night game):
The Royals unleashed a 21-hit attack, featuring homers by Amos Otis, Bob Stinson and Fred Patek, to bury the Rangers, 14-2, in the first game of a twi-night doubleheader. The nightcap was halted by American League curfew with the score tied, 4-4, after nine innings and was completed prior to the regularly scheduled night game, May 27.

Cubs 4, Cardinals 2 at Chicago (day game):
Jose Cardenal's home run and tight pitching by starter Rick Reuschel and reliever Darold Knowles paced the Cubs to a 4-2 victory over the Cardinals. Knowles earned his fourth save after Reuschel yielded a homer to Reggie Smith in the seventh and another run in the eighth on Keith Hernandez' pinch-double and Lou Brock's single. Reuschel drove in a run with a single in the seventh and scored himself on Mike Tyson's throwing error.

Braves 4, Reds 3 at Cincinnati (day game):
Darrel Chaney's third hit of the game, a bases-loaded, two-run double in the ninth, gave the Braves a 4-3 win over the Reds. Cincinnati had tallied two in the eighth for a 3-2 edge on a double by Ken Griffey and Tony Perez' sacrifice fly. Gary Nolan blanked the Braves on two hits for seven innings, but was forced out with a twisted knee. Reliever Rawly Eastwick took the loss. Andy Messersmith worked seven innings for Atlanta, yielding five hits and two runs, one earned.

Phillies 5, Mets 0 at Philadelphia (night game):
Steve Carlton hurled a three-hitter and Greg Luzinski cracked a two-run homer in the fourth as the Phils shut out the Mets, 5-0. It was Carlton's fifth consecutive win and Jon Matlack's first defeat after four triumphs. Ollie Brown hit a two-run homer in the eighth.

Pirates 6, Expos 3 at Pittsburgh (night game):
Pinch-hitter Dave Parker and second baseman Rennie Stennett drove in two runs apiece during a five-run sixth to lead the Pirates to a 6-3 win over the Expos. Parker singled and Stennett doubled to cap the big inning. John Candelaria made his first relief appearance in the majors and picked up a save by pitching shutout ball the last three innings.

Dodgers 8, Padres 0 at San Diego (night game):
Doug Rau pitched his first shutout of the season with a three-hitter and Joe Ferguson and Steve Yeager hit consecutive homers in the eighth as the Dodgers routed the Padres, 8-0. Steve Garvey's hitting streak ended at 11 games, but the Dodgers rapped 10 hits and scored three in the third, two of them on an error by second baseman Tito Fuentes and the other on Ron Cey's single.

Giants 11, Astros 4 at San Francisco (day game):
The Giants won their fourth straight by routing the Astros, 11-4. Chris Speier's two-run double sparked a four-run fifth inning and the Giants scored five more in the eighth as Bobby Murcer singled with the bases loaded and Gary Matthews whacked a three-run homer. Randy Moffitt logged his first save, holding the Astros to one run in four innings after relieving Jim Barr.
