Today's scores and summaries:

Angels 5, White Sox 3 at California (night game):
Bill Melton turned the tables on his ex-teammates with three RBIs in leading the Angels to a 5-3 triumph which snapped the White Sox' 10-game winning streak. Melton doubled home two runs in the fifth. He sent another across the plate on a groundout in the seventh after Bobby Bonds had broken a 3-3 tie with a single. Frank Tanana hurled his fourth win in a row and struck out nine while yielding 10 hits. Jerry Remy's third hit off loser Francisco Barrios triggered the winning surge in the seventh.

Orioles 4, Tigers 3 at Detroit (night game):
Ken Singleton doubled in the seventh for the run that gave the Orioles a 4-3 win over the Tigers. Detroit's Ron LeFlore tripled in the first and beat out a bunt for a single to extend his hitting streak to 30 games, four behind George Sisler's A. L. record of 34 at the start of a season (1925). Lee May and Tony Muser hit run-scoring singles for the Orioles in the first and the Tigers' Alex Johnson and John Wockenfuss homered in the fourth. The Orioles tied it, 3-3, in the sixth on pitcher Joe Coleman's wild throw to the plate.

Red Sox 2, Brewers 1 at Milwaukee (day game):
Fergie Jenkins hurled a four-hitter in posting his third straight victory as the Red Sox defeated the Brewers, 2-1. Darrell Porter homered in the first inning for the Milwaukee run and only three Brewers reached second base thereafter. Loser Pete Broberg hit Doug Griffin with a pitch in the seventh. Griffin reached third when Broberg threw wildly trying to pick him off first. Griffin then scored the key run on Cecil Cooper's sacrifice fly.

Indians 5, Yankees 3 at New York (night game):
Dave LaRoche's strong relief pitching and pinch-hitter Boog Powell's single in the seventh gave the Indians 5-3 win over the Yankees. LaRoche earned his fourth save after rescuing Jim Bibby in the seventh and pitching out of a bases-loaded, none-out situation. Rico Carty's two-run single gave the Indians a 3-0 lead in the fourth, but the Yanks tied it on Mickey Rivers' two-run homer in the fifth.

A's 5, Twins 3 at Oakland (day game):
Steve Braun's throwing error on Bill North's bunt single in the seventh gave the A's the decisive run in their 5-3 win over Minnesota. The A's stole four bases in achieving their third win in the last 12 games. Mike Torrez logged his fifth win with relief from Rollie Fingers in the eighth.

Rangers 6, Royals 4 at Texas (night game):
Pinch-hitter Jim Sundberg singled in the 10th to give the Rangers a 5-4 win over the Royals in the completion of the game suspended by curfew May 26 after nine innings with the score 4-4. The Rangers then pinned a 6-4 defeat on the Royals in the regularly scheduled game to move within half a game of division-leading Kansas City. Jim Fregosl's home run capped a four-run fourth inning by the Rangers, who erased a 3-0 deficit. Bill Singer, with relief from Joe Hoerner in the seventh, logged his fourth victory.

Cubs 2, Cardinals 1 at Chicago (day game):
Jerry Morales doubled in the fourth inning, took third as Manny Trillo beat out an infield hit and scored the winning run as Steve Swisher bounced into a fielder's choice as the Cubs shaded the Cardinals, 2-1. Steve Renko, limiting the Cardinals to five hits over 6 1/3 innings, posted his first victory with late relief by Darold Knowles.

Mets 5, Phillies 2 at Philadelphia (night game):
Pinch-hitter Wayne Garrett tripled with the bases full to highlight a four-run ninth inning that carried the Mets to a 5-2 triumph over the Phillies. Dave Kingman belted his 17th home run in the seventh.

Padres 3, Giants 1 at San Diego (night game):
The Padres scored two runs in the fourth inning and went on to end the Giants' four-game winning streak, 3-1. Singles by Tito Fuentes and Willie Davis plus Bobby Murcer's throwing error and Dave Winfield's sacrifice fly sent the Padres in front to stay.
