Today's scores and summaries:

Yankees 8, Red Sox 3 at Boston (night game):
The Yankees capitalized on three wild pitches, a passed ball and three stolen bases to defeat the Red Sox, 8-3, before a crowd of 35,939, the largest at Fenway Park in 20 years. Thurman Munson hit his seventh homer and drove in another run with a sacrifice fly as Catfish Hunter went the route for the ninth time in 12 starts.

White Sox 9, Rangers 4 at Chicago (night game):
Chet Lemon was credited with a three-run triple in the first inning on a fly ball to short left field that was lost in the fog and the White Sox went on to wallop the Rangers, 9-4. Jim Spencer, with four hits, and Lemon, with three, helped the White Sox collect a club season high of 15 hits. The umpires twice suspended play until fog cleared enough to permit resumption.

[DH] Indians 4, Orioles 1 (night game) / Indians 4, Orioles 3 at Cleveland (night game):
The Indians swept a doubleheader from the Orioles, 4-1 and 4-3, with Larvell Blanks going 5-for-7 and providing most of the punch. A two-run triple by Blanks broke a scoreless tie in the fourth inning of the opener. Blanks hit a two-run homer in the seventh, capping a three-run rally that won the nightcap.

Tigers 5, Brewers 4 at Detroit (night game):
The Tigers scored two runs in the last of the 11th inning to beat the Brewers, 5-4, behind rookie Mark Fidrych, who went the distance. Ron LeFlore's sacrifice fly brought in the tying run and Tom Veryzer's single scored Jerry Manuel, who had singled and stolen second base. Robin Yount's run-scoring single had given the Brewers a 4-3 lead in the top of the 11th. Don Money hit a three-run homer in the seventh.

Angels 3, Twins 2 at Minnesota (night game):
Frank Tanana outdueled Bert Blyleven in pitching the Angels to a 3-2 triumph over the Twins. The lefthander had 12 strikeouts, did not issue a walk and retired 15 batters in succession in the middle innings to post his sixth straight victory.

A's 10, Royals 1 at Oakland (day game):
Billy Williams led the Athletics on a 10-1 rout of the Royals, driving in five runs while collecting a single, double and his sixth homer.

Padres 10, Braves 7 at Atlanta (night game):
A three-run homer by Dave Winfield capped a six-run outburst in the eighth inning that carried the Padres to a 10-7 triumph over the Braves. Two walks, an error by Marty Perez, singles by Ted Kubiak and Willie McCovey and Luis Melendez' sacrifice fly combined to send the Braves to their fourth straight defeat.

Reds 4, Astros 2 at Houston (night game):
The Reds scored three runs in the fifth inning on a walk to Pete Rose, triple by Joe Morgan and George Foster's eighth homer of the season and went on to defeat the Astros, 4-2.

The Giants erupted for six runs against Mike Marshall in the 12th inning to beat the Dodgers, 7-1. Bobby Murcer had a two-run double and Ken Reitz a two-run single in the outburst. Jim Barr pitched the first eight innings in a duel with Doug Rau, who went 10 innings.

[DH] Mets 13, Pirates 2 (day game) / Pirates 2, Mets 1 at New York (day game):
The Mets blasted Jerry Reuss and the Pirates, 13-2, in the first game of a doubleheader, but the Pirates bounced back to win the second game, 2-1, on the five-hit pitching of Doc Medich. Mike Phillips and Wayne Garrett each drove in three runs to support Jon Matlack's five-hitter in the opener. Duffy Dyer's second homer of the season, in the second inning, proved decisive in the nightcap. Ron Hodges' two-out homer in the ninth spoiled Medich's shutout bid.

[DH] Cubs 7, Phillies 5 (night game) / Phillies 4, Cubs 1 at Philadelphia (night game):
Jim Kaat held the Cubs to six hits and hit the 15th homer of his major league career in pitching the Phillies to a 4-1 victory in the second game of a doubleheader after the Cubs took the opener, 7-5. Kaat's homer in the fourth inning was his first in the National League. Run-scoring singles by Mick Kelleher and winning pitcher Rick Reuschel helped the Cubs take a 3-1 lead in the seventh inning of the opener and they scored three more in the eighth on singles by Bill Madlock, Larry Biittner and Manny Trillo, a wild pitch by Tug McGraw and throwing errors by Larry Bowa and Dick Allen.
