Red Sox 12, Orioles 8 at Boston (night game):
Rookie third baseman Butch Hobson, just up from Rhode Island (International), hit a two-run, inside-the-park homer in the sixth inning, breaking an 8-8 tie, and the Red Sox went on to beat the Orioles, 12-8.

Indians 5, Brewers 3 at Cleveland (night game):
The combination of John Lowenstein and Jim Bibby led the Indians to a 5-3 triumph over the Brewers. Lowenstein drove in two runs with a single and homer and Bibby pitched 6 1/3 innings of two-hit relief after the Brewers kayoed Don Hood.

Tigers 5, Yankees 1 at Detroit (night game):
A Family Night crowd of 47,855 and a national television audience saw Mark Fidrych, colorful rookie righthander, pitch the Tigers to a 5-1 victory over the Yankees. Rusty Staub hit a two-run homer for the Tigers in the first inning and Fidrych limited the Yankees to seven hits in posting his seventh victory in succession.

Twins 4, Royals 3 at Minnesota (night game):
The Twins struck for two runs in the eighth inning, following a 61-minute rain delay, to defeat the Royals, 4-3. Tony Oliva doubled, scoring Lyman Bostock who had walked. Oliva advanced to third on a wild relay throw by Frank White, then scored on Larry Hisle's sacrifice fly.

Rangers 3, A's 2 at Texas (night game):
The Rangers defeated the Athletics, 3-2, in 11 innings, when Jeff Burroughs singled, scoring Lenny Randle from second base. Randle reached first on a bad-hop single off Bert Campaneris' glove and advanced on Ken Pape's sacrifice. Reliever Jim Todd walked Toby Harrah intentionally to face Burroughs, who broke up the game.

Dodgers 5, Braves 2 at Los Angeles (night game):
Pinch-runner Davey Lopes scored from third base on a sacrifice fly by Lee Lacy and Bill Buckner followed with a home run as the Dodgers broke a 2-2 deadlock in the seventh inning, then went on to beat the Braves, 5-2.
