Today's scores and summaries:

Twins 8, Brewers 4 at Minnesota (day game):
After a quick kayo of Eddie Bane in the first inning, Tom Johnson relieved and pitched 8 1/3 sterling stanzas to receive credit for the Twins' 8-4 victory over the Brewers. Bane was rapped for three runs on four hits before being removed. The Twins came back to tie the score and then took command of the game with four runs in the sixth. Steve Braun singled, took second on an infield out and scored the tie-breaker on a single by Rod Carew. Consecutive singles by Lyman Bostock, Butch Wynegar, Mike Cubbage and Larry Hisle then added three runs.

[DH] Dodgers 2, Expos 1 (night game) / Dodgers 5, Expos 3 at Montreal (night game):
Charlie Hough picked up two saves, his 12th and 13th of the season, finishing both games in the Dodgers' 2-1 and 5-3 sweep of a twi-night doubleheader with the Expos. In the opener, the Dodgers scored both their runs in the fourth inning on consecutive singles by Bill Buckner, Reggie Smith, Steve Garvey and Ron Cey. The Expos counted off Don Sutton in the sixth on a walk to Wayne Garrett, double by Larry Parrish and sacrifice fly by Del Unser. Sutton was hit on his pitching hand by a grounder off the bat of Earl Williams in the ninth and left the mound in favor of Hough, who retired Jerry White for the final out. In the nightcap, a tender elbow forced the exit of Dodgers' starter Rick Rhoden after three innings. Elias Sosa pitched the next four stanzas and Hough finished. Bill Buckner hit a double, two singles and a sacrifice fly, batted in two runs and scored two to lead the Dodgers' attack.

Giants 10, Mets 7 at New York (day game):
The first Giants' batter to drive in five runs in one game this season, Bobby Murcer achieved the feat in a 10-7 victory over the Mets. Murcer batted in one run with a grounder in the first inning, drew a walk with the bases loaded in the third, homered with a man on base in the fourth and singled for his fifth RBI in the sixth. John D'Acquisto started for the Giants and worked two innings before being removed after a 61-minute rain delay. Charlie Williams was kayoed in the third. Mike Caldwell relieved and received credit for his first victory of the season after seven defeats. However, Caldwell was chased in the eighth when the Mets erupted for four runs and Randy Moffitt finished.

Pirates 5, Padres 0 at Pittsburgh (night game):
The Pirates extended their winning streak to seven games when Larry Demery pitched a five-hitter and shut out the Padres, 5-0. The Pirates scored in the first inning on a single by Frank Taveras, a stolen base and double by Willie Stargell. After another stolen base by Taveras and wild throw by catcher Bob Davis added a marker in the third, the Pirates iced the victory with three runs in the fourth. Richie Hebner knocked in two tallies with a double and later scored on the front end of a double steal with Manny Sanguillen.
