Today's scores and summaries:

Yankees 3, Orioles 1 at Baltimore (night game):
Getting two RBIs from Thurman Munson, the Yankees posted a 3-1 victory to pull 11½ games ahead of the second-place Orioles in the East Division standings. Willie Randolph singled in the third inning, stole second, moved up on a safe bunt by Fred Stanley and scored the Yankees' first run on a single by Munson. In the fifth, a double by Mickey Rivers, sacrifice bunt by Roy White and sacrifice fly by Munson added the second run. Carlos May singled and Chris Chambliss doubled in the seventh to make it 3-0 before the Orioles picked up their lone tally in the eighth on a single by Al Bumbry, pass to Bobby Grich and single by Reggie Jackson.

A's 3, Angels 0 at California (night game):
Mike Torrez, who limited the Angels to two singles, pitched the Athletics to a 3-0 victory for his first shutout of the season. Rusty Torres collected both of the Angels' hits, while Claudell Washington accounted for all of the A's RBIs. In the second inning, Sal Bando was hit by a pitch, Gene Tenace singled and, after two out, both scored on a single by Washington. The other run followed in the fourth. Tenace led off with a double, took third after Willie McCovey flied out and crossed the plate on a sacrifice fly by Washington.

Red Sox 5, Indians 3 at Cleveland (night game):
A two-run double by Carlton Fisk in the third inning provided the Red Sox' winning margin and enabled Luis Tiant to defeat the Indians, 5-3, for his seventh straight victory. The Red Sox scored three times in the first inning, with sacrifice flies by Fred Lynn and Carl Yastrzemski and a double by Cecil Cooper accounting for the RBIs. Then in the third, after Lynn walked and Yastrzemski singled, Fisk batted them home with his double. John Lowenstein homered for the Indians.

Brewers 11, Tigers 2 at Detroit (night game):
Mike Hegan hit for the cycle and drove in six runs as the Brewers teed off on Mark Fidrych and walloped the Tigers, 11-2. Fidrych, who was knocked out in the fourth inning, failed to go the distance for the first time in 15 starts at home. Hegan batted in two runs with a double in the first, homered in the third, hit a bases-loaded triple in the fourth and completed the cycle with a single in the sixth.

Rangers 4, Royals 1 at Kansas City (night game):
Tommy Boggs, a loser of four decisions, posted his first major league victory as the Rangers defeated the faltering Royals, 4-1. The loss was the fifth in a row for the West Division leaders, whose margin over the Athletics was cut to six games. Walks to Mike Hargrove and Jeff Burroughs and a single by Roy Howell produced the Rangers' first run in the sixth inning. Their other markers followed in the eighth after Gene Clines and Toby Harrah singled and Burroughs walked to load the bases. Danny Thompson knocked in two runs with a single and the other tally crossed the plate when Tom Grieve forced Thompson and Fred Patek threw wild to first base attempting to complete a double play.

Twins 11, White Sox 1 at Minnesota (night game):
The Twins scored in six of their eight times at bat and rolled over the White Sox, 11-1. The White Sox counted their lone run in the first inning on singles by Ralph Garr and Jim Spencer around a stolen base. After Rod Carew drove in the tying tally with a single in the home half of the first, the Twins began pulling away when Roy Smalley singled, Carew walked and Lyman Bostock doubled for two runs in the third. After that, it was no contest as the Twins kept scoring with a 15-hit attack that included three singles by Roy Smalley, who drove in two runs.

Reds 10, Braves 5 at Atlanta (night game):
Pinch-hitting in the eighth inning, Dan Driessen smashed a three-run homer and Tony Perez followed with a two-run drive in the ninth to power the Reds to a 10-5 victory over the Braves. With the score tied, 5-5, Cesar Geronimo singled in the eighth and Dave Concepcion walked before Driessen batted for Will McEnaney and rapped his round-tripper off Adrian Devine.

Cubs 8, Cardinals 5 at Chicago (day game):
The Cubs came out ahead in managerial maneuvering when Wayne Tyrone singled in the eighth inning to touch off a three-run rally that beat the Cardinals, 8-5. Rick Monday hit two homers for the Cubs, while the Cards had circuit clouts by Ted Simmons and Keith Hernandez. With the score tied, 5-5, Joe Wallis singled in the eighth and took third on a single by Jerry Morales. After Manny Trillo popped up, the Cubs sent up Champ Summers to bat for Rob Sperring. The Cardinals then brought southpaw Al Hrabosky from the bullpen. The Cubs switched to Tyrone, who bats righthanded, and the substitute pinch-hitter came through with his tie-breaking single, scoring Wallis. Mick Kelleher also singled to bat in Morales and when Hector Cruz missed the throw from the outfield, pinch-runner Dave Rosello crossed the plate with the final tally.

Dodgers 4, Astros 3 at Houston (night game):
Ron Cey collected three hits, including a homer, and drove in three runs to lead the Dodgers to a 4-3 victory over the Astros, who were stopped on their seven-game winning streak. Larry Dierker, who started for the Astros, went out for a pinch-hitter after seven innings, ending a string of six straight complete games by the Houston staff. Cey hit his homer after a double by Steve Garvey in the fourth inning. A triple by Steve Yeager and single by Burt Hooton added a run in the fifth. The Dodgers' winning marker followed in the eighth when Bill Buckner singled, stole second and Cey singled. Bob Watson batted in two of the Astros' tallies with a sacrifice fly and double.

In the opener, Dave Parker drove in three of the Pirates' runs with a single and homer, while Willie Stargell and Riche Hebner accounted for two RBIs apiece. Tim Foli batted in three runs for the Expos, including two with a homer. In the nightcap, Hebner hit for the circuit with a man on base in the sixth inning to give the Pirates a 2-1 lead, but Bombo Rivera tied the score with a triple in the Expos' half. The Pirates went ahead to stay in the seventh when Frank Taveras walked, advanced on an infield out and scored on a double by Richie Zisk.

Mets 1, Phillies 0 at New York (night game):
Tom Seaver pitched a four-hitter and triumphed in his duel with Steve Carlton when Roy Staiger drove in a run with a single in the fourth inning to give the Mets a 1-0 victory over the Phillies. The loss was the seventh straight for the Phils. The Mets collected only five hits off Carlton, but bunched singles by Dave Kingman, Joe Torre and Staiger for their run.
